Yangju galbi restaurant with spicy bone soup, holiday lunch: Manpo
In short
Manpo Garden is a butcher-style charcoal galbi restaurant on Godeok-ro 355beon-gil in Yangju, Gyeonggi. On a holiday lunch visit with her parents, the writer ordered 3 servings of handmade Handon pork galbi (Korean pork short ribs) and Manpo bone-gaejang, a spicy bone soup, and the handmade Hamhung-style cold noodles came free in both the chilled-broth and spicy versions. Manpo Garden was packed to the last seat, but the tables sit far apart and there is a self-serve banchan bar plus dessert machines, so it works well for a family meal out.

Today was a holiday so the whole family was home, and I was racking my brain over what to eat for lunch together. When I'm eating with my parents especially, I end up checking everything closely — not just the food, but the parking, the atmosphere, the menu lineup. This time we went to Manpo Garden in Yangju for some good galbi (grilled short rib) with the family.

Manpo Garden has plenty of parking and a comfortable setup, which makes it a popular spot for family meals or group gatherings. It also has a lot of reviews online, and consistently good ones at that.

What kind of galbi restaurant is Manpo Garden?
Manpo Garden uses top-grade hanu (Korean beef) certified by the livestock cooperative. Because it's run butcher-shop style, the meat is really fresh, and you get to enjoy it grilled over top-quality charcoal — a huge plus.

Holiday lunch at Manpo Garden: every seat taken
The first thing that caught my eye walking in was how spacious it was. Probably because it was holiday lunch hour, the place was completely full haha. But the tables were spaced generously so I never felt cramped while eating, and there was even a room set aside for group parties.

Beyond the hanu menu, there was also pork galbi, samgyeopsal (pork belly), and yukhoe, so there was plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

The starting table setting and the self-serve banchan bar
The basic table setting at Manpo Garden was really satisfying from the start. Every side dish on the table was neatly arranged and looked great, which built up my anticipation before the main food even arrived.

There was fresh salad, crunchy radish salad, white kimchi, pickles, and a range of other side dishes that went well with the meat. The seasoning wasn't overpowering at all, so I felt like it would work fine even if you brought kids along. With so much variety, I never got tired of the meat throughout the meal, and it was fun mixing up the combinations.

If any side dish ran low, you could just grab more from the self-serve bar, which was another nice touch. And as part of the side dishes, they served yukjeon (pan-fried beef) and yukhoe!!

How were 3 servings of handmade Handon pork galbi?
We ordered 3 servings of handmade hanu galbi and the Manpo bone-gaejang. They say the handmade galbi uses 100% rib meat, and eating it, I could really tell — it was juicy and tender.

Watching the galbi turn golden brown over the charcoal instantly got my appetite going. The seasoning wasn't overdone either — it soaked in subtly, letting the natural flavor of the meat come through.

Seasoned galbi is often too sweet or too strong, but this one was easy to eat without feeling heavy, which made it even more satisfying.

Handmade Hamhung-style cold noodles come free
You can't have galbi without naengmyeon (cold noodles), right? So we ordered both the water-based and spicy versions, and one of Manpo Garden's biggest perks turned out to be that the handmade Hamhung-style noodles are given free of charge.

They say the noodles are made in-house and the broth is simmered with beef brisket and vegetables — and the noodles really were chewy.

What does Manpo bone-gaejang taste like?
The Manpo bone-gaejang we ordered alongside was also really satisfying. It came with a whopping four large bone pieces, along with a bowl of rice.

It was my first time trying bone-gaejang, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it tasted like a mix between yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and bone haejangguk (hangover soup). There was so much meat still on the bones that it was plenty filling as a full meal on its own.

If just eating meat feels a bit lacking, ordering one of the rice menu items alongside seems like a good move. They actually have a range of meal options too, like galbitang, naengmyeon, and yukhoe bibimbap, and I heard a lot of people come specifically for lunch.

Dessert: coffee and puffed-rice ice cream machines outside
Outside the restaurant there are machines where you can get coffee and puffed-rice soft serve.

Even the dessert quality was excellent!!

Who is Manpo Garden best for?
This visit made it clear why so many people come to Manpo Garden. Fresh meat, neatly arranged side dishes, and free Hamhung noodles on top — nothing about it fell short. If you're looking for hanu in Yangju, galbi in Yangju, or a spot for a work dinner or family meal in Yangju, I'd recommend giving it a try. Enjoy a satisfying meal of good galbi and a cool bowl of naengmyeon!!
