Hwangje Bajirak Kalguksu Dangjin Waemok-maeul branch: hours and parking
Hwangje Bajirak Kalguksu (황제바지락칼국수) Dangjin Waemok-maeul branch is a Waemok Village restaurant in Dangjin where you can eat with a view of the sea. It is closed on Mondays, open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 8:30pm, and last order is one hour before closing. You can park right in front.
This is where we had the last meal of our Dangjin day trip!

Right here, Hwangje Bajirak Kalguksu..! Just park in front of the restaurant (there's tons of space~)

Can you get a sea-view window seat early on a weekday evening?
We went early on a weekday evening and I think we were the first dinner customers~ Thanks to that, we got a window seat with a view of the sea, which was great!

Why it's good with kids: sanitized baby tableware and high chairs
The kids' tableware and high chairs at Hwangje were all sanitized. And looking around, you could see the owner had thought of a lot of little things!
I've seen plenty of places with kids' dishes and chairs, but I think this is the first time I've seen them sanitized like that...! (Even the chairs were covered after being sanitized!!) Families visiting Dangjin often bring children, and the owner's thoughtfulness toward worried parents really stands out~

Ordering by kiosk: Eolkeun Minsaebi for 4
You order on the kiosk at each table! The four of us ordered the Eolkeun Minsaebi (spicy clam, freshwater shrimp and sujebi soup) for 4 people.

Self-serve bok choy and bean sprouts, plus the ingredients story
The self-serve bar had basic side dishes, bok choy and bean sprouts. (You can just add them to the minsaebi!!)
And when I looked at the wall, I felt this was a place you can trust! The rice is Dangjin Haenaru premium rice, the Haenam napa cabbage geotjeori (fresh kimchi) is made by hand every day, and the clams are purged of sand up to three times. I didn't even know clams needed three rounds of that;;^^

Black bean tea in a bottle wearing a hanbok
Instead of water, Hwangje serves seoritae (black bean) tea. Anyway, I glanced around and sat down, and there was a bottle wearing a pretty hanbok (Korean traditional dress), so I took a closer look and

it was black bean tea! Of course I know black beans are good for you, but how often do you get to drink them as tea? (Surely it's not just me) So I drank a lot ^^

Pumpkin sweet potato jeon, bibimbap and the addictive soy sauce that come with Eolkeun Minsaebi
When you order the Eolkeun Minsaebi, pumpkin sweet potato jeon (savory pancake) and bibimbap come with it. The jeon was crispy outside and soft inside~

And there should be this "addictive soy sauce" (magyak ganjang) on every table

Mixed into the bibimbap it isn't salty and it's delicious haha (my parents said the soy sauce was really good too). If you actually put it in the bibimbap, you just want more bibimbap... haha (even though the color looks light)

It's good for dipping the jeon too, so don't forget to try it~ Once you dip, you keep dipping, haha

Free strawberry makgeolli
Hwangje serves strawberry makgeolli (rice wine) for free!! I'm pregnant so I passed, but my mom and dad said it's like wine with a strawberry flavor haha

How is the Eolkeun Minsaebi? Loaded with clams, freshwater shrimp and sujebi
Hwangje's main dish, the Eolkeun Minsaebi, comes ready to eat. It arrives while you're busy nibbling at everything else, and as you can see, it was packed with shrimp, packed with minari (water dropwort), packed with sujebi, and packed with clams..haha

Then we dug in, and the broth gets a pass..! As the name "eolkeun" suggests, it was spicy as expected..!! Maybe because of the minari the broth tastes clean, and the clams and freshwater shrimp seem to make the broth rich. It's on the spicy side but I ate it really well!! (I'm a spice wimp)

Maybe because it's been a while since I had sujebi, it just went down so easily? We kept eating the broth and sujebi together.

Add the bok choy and bean sprouts early
One more thing not to forget with the Eolkeun Minsaebi is adding the bok choy and bean sprouts from the self-serve bar (I should have added them sooner), and of course you keep eating them once they're cooked~

I also worked hard peeling and eating the clams. There were so many, and since you can't see them well in the broth, I photographed just the shells. The Eolkeun Minsaebi is a really refreshing, spicy sujebi, so it's good as a hangover cure too, and I think fans of spicy broth will love it! I thought I wouldn't be able to finish the jeon because of all the sujebi, but maybe thanks to the addictive soy sauce, we cleared the jeon too before leaving^^

A souvenir photo on the way out, downloadable by QR code
You can even take a photo on your way out at Hwangje! It's printed out, and a QR code at the bottom lets you download it, so download it too!! (It downloads in color~)
That's how we had a tasty dinner during our Dangjin day trip and headed home happy~ If you're traveling to Dangjin, especially near Waemok Village, I hope you'll taste the real deep broth at Hwangje!
Verdict
- I couldn't tell how many clams and freshwater shrimp were in it. (They kept coming no matter how much we ate)
- The broth was delicious and so was the sujebi.
- The free extras were nice too, and the soy sauce.. you have to try it.
