Ocean-view café near Pyoseon Beach, Jeju: Café 7 Budu port seats

I landed at Jeju on a 1-night-2-day trip and had lunch at Nansan-ri Sikdang in Seongsan. Check-in wasn't until 4pm, so I had almost two hours to kill.

I figured I'd relax with an ocean view and some cool handmade patbingsu, so I headed to Café 7 Budu (표선카페7부두), right in front of Pyoseon Beach.

Where Café 7 Budu is and where to park at Pyoseon Port

Café 7 Budu's address is 17 Pyoseondangpo-ro, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju. It's about an hour by car from Jeju Airport — we drove 12km from Nansan-ri Sikdang and got there in 18 minutes.

Parking was right in front of Pyoseon Port. There was room for six cars or more, so no worries about finding a spot. Pyoseon Beach is a 2-minute walk and Jeju Folk Village is a 3-minute drive, so it's easy to slot into an east-side itinerary.

Café 7 Budu menu and what we ordered

I'd seen this place recommended as a Pyoseon must-visit café, and even the menu names tie into the sea theme, so it was fun just reading the board.

We ordered the ttukbaegi handmade patbingsu and the ssanghwa tea. The patbingsu is a for-two portion and can't be packed to go — you have to eat it there. Our total for two came to ₩26,000.

What does the ttukbaegi handmade patbingsu taste like?

Café 7 Budu's ttukbaegi handmade patbingsu really does come in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), piled all the way to the edges, looking like it would spill if you so much as nudged it. I was careful just dipping my spoon in, and for the first few bites I ate hunched over the bowl. What was unusual was the corn kernels scattered on top. Scooped up together in one spoonful, they gave a crunchy bite that kept the soft ice from getting monotonous.

They said the red beans are domestic and made in-house, and it was clearly different from store-bought red bean paste. Instead of a sudden hit of sweetness, the beans broke down slowly and released a subtle red bean aroma. I thought we'd have leftovers given the size, but the two of us scraped the bowl clean, haha.

How does the Heo Jun Recipe ssanghwa tea taste?

The ₩9,000 Heo Jun Recipe ssanghwa (ssanghwa-tang) tea came with jujube and walnuts mixed in. It had almost none of the bitterness typical of herbal medicine teas, so it went down easily, and the aroma alone as the steam rose off it was lovely.

After the cold patbingsu, sipping the warm ssanghwa tea made me think it would be even better looking out at the sea in winter.

Best ocean-view seats: first floor, second floor or terrace?

There's a separate outdoor terrace set up right at the first-floor entrance of Café 7 Budu. You sit with the sea right in front of you, so on a nice day this seems like the spot people would head for first.

We sat at a second-floor seat toward the back, facing Pyoseon Port. Through the window, the boats docked at the harbor filled the view — a different mood from the sandy beach view.

It's the same ocean view either way, but the window on the opposite side faces Pyoseon Beach, so pick a seat depending on what you're after.

The first floor has a wood interior and even separate single seats, so it wouldn't feel awkward to sit alone. If you want quiet, I'd recommend the second floor. The wooden floor creaks a bit as you walk, but even that fit the space well.

The staircase photo zone and free photos with a reservation

The walls at Café 7 Budu are packed with framed photos of past visitors. Every single face looked so bright that I spent a while just looking at them. The staircase itself is a photo zone, and I heard that if you book through Naver Reservations, the owner will actually take your photo there in person.

I dropped by without a reservation, so I just took a selfie, but if I'd known ahead of time I would have booked. If you're looking up Pyoseon cafés in Jeju, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation — it adds the fun of walking away with a photo too.
