Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout (어실장 회포장) is a sashimi takeout and delivery shop in Yangyang, Gangwon, about a one-minute drive from the Sol Beach Yangyang resort. On a family trip, the writer phoned in a mixed sashimi platter (from 50,000 won for two) as a late-night snack after putting the kids to bed. The platter came packed with thick-cut sashimi, abalone, sea squirt, lettuce for wraps and dipping sauces. Gumi Korean restaurant with barley tea and radish kimchi: Imgane

Imgane Nakji Bossam (임가네낙지보쌈) is a Korean restaurant in In-dong and Jinpyeong-dong, Gumi, serving nakji bokkeum (spicy stir-fried octopus) and bossam (boiled pork wraps). For a weekend family meal, the writer ordered the Imgane Hansang set for two at 17,000 won per person: abalone porridge, seaweed soup, stir-fried octopus and bossam, plus self-serve fried eggs, young radish kimchi and japchae side dishes, and nutty barley tea, and the kids ate until they were full. With good value and thoughtful touches for children, Imgane Nakji Bossam is a place the writer wants to revisit with their parents.

Jeju noodle shop near Saryeoni: cold anchovy noodles, Myeonjumak

Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch is a pork noodle (gogi guksu) and dombe-gogi (sliced boiled pork) restaurant on Beonyeong-ro in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, near Saryeoni Forest Path and Eco Land. A family of four came to Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch for lunch, ordered half a portion of dombe-gogi, pork noodles, boiled dumplings and cold anchovy noodles, and gave the kids Hallabong juice in a Dolhareubang-shaped bottle for dessert. With a big parking lot, baby chairs, a microwave and phone chargers, Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch is an easy, comfortable lunch stop for families with children.

Dongseong-ro Korean lunch with a kid: 3 fried eggs, Cafe Dongi

Cafe Dongi Dongseong-ro Main Branch (카페동이 동성로본점) is a Korean restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building on Dongseong-ro 3-gil, near Banwoldang Station in Daegu. On a weekend lunch for just one parent and one child, we had the Dongi Bulgogi set, the Grandma's Jjukkumi Bokkeum (spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus) set and giant fried shrimp. The child ate 3 free unlimited fried eggs and managed the tender Dongi Bulgogi without it being cut up. With an elevator, high chairs and an indoor waiting area, Cafe Dongi is a good-value, easygoing Korean restaurant for a meal with kids in downtown Daegu.

Doyajigwangjang is a black pork and makchang (grilled pork intestine) BBQ restaurant on Goseongdongseo-ro in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju. A family with kids ordered the 3-person mixed set of black pork belly, black pork neck, gabrisal and hangjeongsal, then added pork makchang and steamed egg; the thick black pork was juicy and tender, and the soybean paste stew was mild enough for the children. Doyajigwangjang is an easy pick for a family dinner when staying near Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Jeju Airport noodle shop after an early flight: Yongdam Bomal Kalguksu

Yongdam Bomal Kalguksu (용담보말칼국수) is a restaurant specializing in bomal kalguksu (sea snail knife-cut noodle soup) on Heungun-gil in Jeju City, near Jeju Airport. Gumi loach soup spot, partition seats for a family of 6: Irojeong

Irojeong Gumi Geumosan Direct Branch is a loach soup (chueotang) restaurant on Bakjeonghui-ro in Gumi, near the Park Chung-hee birthplace and Sangmo High School. On a weekday evening, a family of 6, including grandparents and kids, sat in partitioned seats and ate the hot suyuk sanghwang loach set (₩14,000), Hanu beef seaweed soup (₩11,000), a whole pork loin cutlet (₩10,000) and grilled mackerel (₩7,000), while the kids used the free playroom and everyone had free snacks at the café next door afterwards. Irojeong is a Geumosan restaurant that covers a nourishing meal for parents and a kid-friendly 3-generation family dinner in one stop.

Gumi café for patjeolmi & mango cup bingsu and doughnuts: Otters

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a large otter-themed bakery café on Seonsan-daero in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. On a hot day after lunch, the blogger went looking for easy parking. At Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch the blogger tried yellow cheese, Oreo and tiramisu cream doughnuts, corn bread, a chocolate-packed baguette, and patjeolmi (red bean and rice cake) and mango cup bingsu at about 8,000 won each. The visit also covered the big front-yard parking lot, the nursing room and the 2nd-floor floor seating. Verdict: Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a large Gumi café that even beginner drivers can reach easily, ideal for one cup bingsu per person and cream doughnuts.

Suseongmot, Daegu Korean restaurant for weekday lunch: Cafe Dongyi

Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 is a Korean restaurant on the ground floor of the Suseong SK Leaders View building in Suseong, Daegu, near Suseongmot. Good Things Gumi is a large roastery café in central In-dong, Gumi, that takes up the entire ground floor of its building. The writer came back for the desserts with her younger sibling and their spouse, ordering strawberry pistachio cake, milk cake, matcha milk, an americano and milk coffee, and enjoyed both the rich pistachio cream and the clean, mild milk cream. Good Things Gumi gets both drinks and desserts right, making it an In-dong café worth returning to.
