Charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi and agedashi tofu at Izakaya Wakoan

Izakaya Wakoan Suseong Beomeo Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya in Beomeo-dong, Suseong, Daegu, with warm wood-tone interiors. The writer ordered pork jowl steak for ₩30,000, hand-made charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) for ₩22,000, and agedashi tofu for ₩15,000, finding smoky char in the tteokgalbi and light, savory tofu soaked in tsuyu sauce. With its mood and food both on point, it's a solid pick for a date or drinks with friends.

Mungtigi raw beef big plate and yukhoe bibimbap in Buk-gu, Daegu

Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is a raw beef specialty restaurant in Guam-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, serving same-day slaughtered Hanwoo cow mungtigi (Korean-style raw beef). Two diners shared a big plate of raw beef along with yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang stew on a weekday evening, and the meat had so much chewy stickiness it stayed stuck to the plate even when flipped upside down. Service was a bit slow, but the freshness of the mungtigi and the quality of the yukhoe bibimbap were unmistakable.
