Gunwi camping restaurant tent by the dog run: pork neck BBQ, Palkkongi
In short
Palkkongi is a dog-friendly camping-themed restaurant on Hanti-ro in Bugye-myeon, Gunwi, Daegu, at the foot of Palgongsan Mountain. Two visitors with a dog were given a triangular "meokping" tent for 2–4 people right in front of the dog run, and because every tent has air conditioning they grilled pork neck and squid jjamppong ramen in comfort on a midsummer afternoon. Meat prices at Palkkongi are on the high side, but the gear and ingredients are all waiting for you, so you can turn up empty-handed.

Hey everyone, hope you're all having a JOY-ful Monday. I heard there was a restaurant with a camping vibe up at Palgongsan mountain, so I headed out there last weekend for a little day trip. It's dog-friendly, so I brought Joy along with me 🐶
Where is Palkkongi and when is it open?

It's about a 40–50 minute drive from Daegu, so it made for a perfect little getaway drive. When I arrived, the owner personally directed me to a parking spot, so parking was a breeze :)

How check-in and the session times work
At Palkkongi, you first head to the snack bar to 'check in.' Give them your reservation name at the counter, and they'll hand you the AC remote along with your tent assignment and instructions.
- Weekdays: Session 1 12:00–16:00 / Session 2 17:30–21:00
- Weekends & holidays: Session 1 11:00–14:00 / Session 2 14:30–17:30 / Session 3 18:00–21:00
Meokping tent or Campnic: which seat do you get?
Since there were two of us, we were assigned a "meokping" tent, which fits 2–4 people. Because we had a dog with us, they gave us a tent right in front of the dog run behind it. The owner's sense for these things is seriously the best ✌🏻
The inside of the tent was plenty spacious for two people. And having air conditioning in every single tent — that's the real win 🥹 You can hang out worry-free even on a scorching midsummer afternoon.
The triangular-shaped tents are the meokping tents, and you get assigned one of these if you're visiting with four people or fewer.

This is a Campnic spot, which you get assigned if you're visiting with more than four people.

What to know before bringing your dog to Palkkongi
Since Palkkongi in Daegu is a dog-friendly restaurant, there are a few things to keep in mind when bringing your pup along. Nothing complicated — just give it a read and be a good guest!

There were a lot of fellow dog friends the day we visited, so I got to see plenty of cute pups 🖤 A few kids were yelling and mimicking barking at the dogs to provoke them, and I couldn't help but wonder where their guardians were........^^

What can you buy at the Palkkongi snack bar?
The Palkkongi snack bar sells a variety of meats — pork neck, pork belly, lamb, Iberico pork, and more. Meat prices are on the pricier side, honestly, but I think it's fair given the unique camping-style setting you get to eat in.

They also sell sides to go with the meat — shredded scallions, vegetables, kimchi, sausage, pickled radish. Bottled water is available too, along with drinks and alcohol.

There's a range of snacks, instant rice, and ramen too, plus jjondeugi (a chewy grilled Korean snack) and marshmallows you can toast over the fire.

Why you can come empty-handed: gear and the self-serve bar
There's also a good selection of boardgames, so it'd be great fun to come with friends or family and hang out. A microwave, disposables, butane gas, burners, pots, and tableware — genuinely everything is provided, so you really can show up with nothing but yourself.

There's also a self-serve bar at Palkkongi where you can grab garlic, chili peppers, and lettuce wraps. Of course, taking only as much as you'll actually eat is basic manners! 🙋🏻♀️

It's a great spot for families with kids, and since a lot of families do come, there's a well-equipped play area for children too.

During the evening's Session 3, there's a bonfire event that turns out to be hugely popular — it was already fully booked a month in advance since it was the weekend...
Grilling the pork neck: sear on the wire grate, finish on the griddle
We picked up meat, vegetables, ramen, and more from the snack bar.

They told us to sear the meat first on the grate outside, then bring it back into the tent to finish cooking on the griddle. Pork neck, an assortment of vegetables, and even kimchi went on top — and just like that, our Palkkongi plate was complete ⋆.˚⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚

Our dog, fully resigned to her fate 🐶 The smell of meat grilling inside the tent must have been overwhelming, but after a bit of longing looks, she gave up.

I love going camping normally, but being able to get this camping vibe while showing up with literally nothing? Packing and setting up gear is normally a whole ordeal — but here, everything's already set up and you can buy the food in one go too. Seriously the best ⭐️

After all that rich, greasy meat, you've gotta finish it off with a spicy ramen to wash it all down. We had one bowl of squid jjamppong ramen, and finished with fried rice in the leftover broth — perfect.
The dog run and the walking trail at Palkkongi
There was a small dog play area out back, so we headed over to the dog run to help digest the meal.

We got there late after the other dogs had already finished playing, so Joy had the whole place to herself and ran around to her heart's content.
There's also a walking trail out back with gorgeous flowers in bloom, so Joy and I took a stroll there too. Lots of trees meant lots of shade and a cool breeze, which was lovely. Looked like a popular walking spot for other guests too!
Palkkongi, the Palgongsan camping restaurant, made for a great weekend day trip near Daegu with my dog. I love camping normally, and being able to show up with nothing and have everything already set up, plus air conditioning in every tent — that was seriously nice ✌🏻
