What kind of meat is Suyeong Naengsam's pork belly?

Suyeong Naengsam reportedly uses the same shaved pork belly supplied by Bugwang Butcher Shop, which also supplies Seocho Galbi — famous for its wickedly good prices and taste!! That's a huge advantage: you get to eat delicious shaved pork belly at a much cheaper price!!

Also, with the cool weather these days once the sun goes down, the layout really has that outdoor-market vibe, so you can happily enjoy nicely browned pork belly with a beer~

What's the difference between the frozen shaved pork and frozen pork belly?

Suyeong Naengsam's main menu items are 'quick-frozen shaved pork' and 'quick-frozen pork belly' — the pork belly is a bit thicker than the shaved version! I like thin slices, so I ordered the shaved pork! If you like thicker meat, go for the pork belly.

For side dishes, scallion salad, napa cabbage kimchi, scallion kimchi, and garlic came out as standard. They said they make the scallion kimchi themselves!! And it tasted really good... it paired really well with the shaved pork belly haha.

What's at the Suyeong Naengsam self-serve bar?

The self-serve bar at Suyeong Naengsam had a much wider variety of side dishes than the basic ones. You could easily grab extra helpings of the basic sides, plus wrap greens like lettuce, perilla leaves, and peppers, and thin-sliced potatoes, rice cakes, and mushrooms to grill alongside the meat.

I've seen a lot of BBQ places offer rice cakes, but this was my first time seeing thin-sliced potatoes, so it was fun to try. I noticed other customers grilling a ton of them too. We also picked out extra sides we wanted to try.

How do you grill the shaved pork belly for the best taste?

The staff at Suyeong Naengsam taught me their method: sprinkle a bit of salt on the heated grill plate, lay the meat on, grill it briefly, then quickly flip and grill the other side. The shaved pork belly finally arrived! It came out rolled up in little curls at first, but as it started grilling, it unfurled!

We grilled it that way and enjoyed it with the various side dishes like scallion kimchi and scallion salad. The meat was so tender you could really taste its flavor, and it was truly delicious! Delicious meat plus a beer in that outdoor-market atmosphere~! It was a happy dinner.

Finishing the meal with seafood doenjang jjigae at Suyeong Naengsam

To finish at Suyeong Naengsam, we ordered seafood doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) with rice, and after the delicious pork belly, the seafood doenjang jjigae was also really tasty! It was packed with seafood, with plenty of shrimp and crab meat, and we ate it up happily.

There's also pork doenjang jjigae and naengmyeon (cold noodles) on the menu, so pick whichever suits your taste!!! Everything's bound to be delicious!

Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store was affordable and so delicious. I'm sure everyone ate well over Chuseok, but now it's back to the daily grind...! I hope a delicious bite of pork belly can help relieve some of that daily stress, and I recommend Suyeong Naengsam.
