Clam grill value set for 3 in Gyodong, Daegu: dried-fish tower, Nampo
In short
Nampo is a clam grill and seafood pub in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, across from the Dongin Building of Daegu City Hall. Three friends sat on Nampo's outdoor patio and ordered the value set for 3–4 (large clam grill, abalone or spoon worm, and pen shell risotto), plus a dried-fish tower and mukcham gimbap (aged kimchi and tuna seaweed rice roll). They finished everything from the complimentary shabu-shabu to the soft-serve dessert. Nampo's value set is a good pick for groups of 3–4 who want grilled clams, seafood and sides in one order.

Today I'm introducing Nampo (남포), a pub in Gyodong, Daegu with amazing outdoor patio vibes and food to match. It's my go-to whenever I'm craving grilled clams or seafood downtown. It's already a well-known spot, but some of you might not know it yet, so here's my review 👍🏻

Where is Nampo in Gyodong, Daegu?
Nampo is across from the Daegu City Hall Dongin annex. It's close to Gongpyeong intersection and easy to spot, so finding it was no trouble. At the entrance there's a fishing net hanging up, like it's saying "we sell the kids who live in the sea," and the signboard is covered in tempting clam photos.
I doubt anyone walking through the Gyodong pub alley has missed Nampo. Go once and you'll fall for its charm and keep coming back. It's a real deal clam grill and seafood place in Daegu :)

Nampo's seating and atmosphere
When you walk into Nampo, there's a tank of clams and seafood on the left, and tables run all the way along the right. There's plenty of seating, from group tables to window seats to the inner area.
The interior has a slight Jeju feel, and the soft lighting makes the mood really nice. Having a glass of soju on a date here would totally be a flirting moment, right? >,<

What's in Nampo's value set for 3–4 people?
The Nampo value set for 3–4 is a large clam grill + abalone/spoon worm + pen shell risotto. The menu had clam grills, seafood and all kinds of sides as mains, but there were three of us, so we picked the value set for 3–4 and added a dried-fish tower and mukchamgimbap (mukchamgimbap, a seaweed rice roll).
It might look like a lot (?), but the fact is we finished it all! Oh, and the à la carte prices are good too, but the value set is really well put together for enjoying a variety in generous portions..✨

Complimentary shabu-shabu on the patio
At Nampo, shabu-shabu comes out by default once you order and sit down. The weather was nice so we took an outdoor seat, and the patio vibes totally overwhelmed me.. The shabu-shabu came loaded with clams, mushrooms, fried tofu, fish cake and bok choy, and they dropped it right into the broth to boil for us~~
The clear broth was bubbling away, and just looking at it made me feel healthier. It's so refreshing you could finish a bottle of soju with the shabu-shabu alone. I love a service like this!

What does Nampo's large clam grill look like?
Nampo's large clam grill comes with a tray piled high with pen shell, scallops, abalone and shrimp. W0W, the look of it is just crazy..! Is this the power of the large size~~ And cheese is love, right? ❤️❤️ It's a cheese party, so you don't need to add extra.

I put the pen shell on first since it takes the longest to cook, then got impatient and piled on everything else, haha. The staff member explained the ingredients and how to eat them as they put them on. For the abalone especially, when I said we'd eat the innards too, they even prepared it for us, and asked us to call them once it started bubbling. So kind.. I think that's part of why we enjoyed it so much.

A pork cutlet came out too, and it looked incredible.. The coating was crispy and the sauce was tasty, so I almost inhaled it. We had clams to eat, so I had to calm down!

How fresh are the abalone and spoon worm in the set?
The seafood in Nampo's value set is abalone and spoon worm (gaebul). They came freshly prepared, and you could really feel the freshness. The smell of the sea.. the best
Ordered separately, the seafood would run ₩30,000–40,000, so having it in the set felt like great value. I think that's the biggest reason to recommend Nampo in Gyodong if you're looking for a clam grill or seafood place in Daegu 🫶🏻

Both the spoon worm and abalone were super fresh, the sesame oil must be good because the nutty flavor was bursting, and it went perfectly with the chojang (sweet chili vinegar sauce). They also had seasonal seafood and extra scallops, so next time I'll pick a day and eat seafood to my heart's content, haha

We were chatting while eating clams and lost track of time. I burned them a little because of it, but they were so delicious, what can you do.. You have to admit the cheese, onion and clam combo is a winner, lol. Even while writing this post, I'm craving this real-deal Daegu clam grill again..🔥

Pen shell risotto: ₩12,000 à la carte
Nampo's pen shell risotto is ₩12,000 even when ordered on its own. Kyaaa~~~ The pen shell risotto came out and the look of it was violent, lol. I couldn't even imagine how good it would be.
Before, I mostly ate the grills, but ordering the set lets you enjoy a variety of sides, which is the appeal. The portion is generous, and from the first bite it felt like I was at a Western restaurant. It would be good to order just this on its own while eating the grills too.

Nampo's mukcham gimbap: the sauce makes it
I was surprised by how plump Nampo's mukchamgimbap was. It's rolled so generously the rice looks ready to burst out, and with scallions on top it looks so pretty. They drizzled plenty of sesame oil and gave us a dipping sauce and wasabi too, so I popped it into my mouth in one bite, haha
The seasoning is well soaked in overall, and I already like mukchamgimbap, but at Nampo the sauce is the kick. A taste I keep thinking about..👍🏻

After finishing the big clams, we grilled the small clams and shrimp~~~ I didn't realize at first, but there were quite a lot of clams. I grilled every single one and devoured them. Unlike meat, you don't have to keep flipping clams, so it's perfect for eating during a get-together.

When should you order Nampo's dried-fish tower?
Nampo's dried-fish tower is grilled on the grill, so once you've finished grilling the clams, ask the staff and they'll bring it over. Worth knowing when you order. I was curious how it would come out, and it really does come standing up! Beef jerky, half-dried squid (pidaegi), shredded pollock and baby pollock (nogari), the full set~~~
A dipping sauce comes with it too, so it's perfect as beer snacks. Midway they put a plate of butter on, and we immediately got started on butter-grilled squid~

Grilling this and that like a dried-snack buffet was fun, and eating it right off the grill, warm, made it even better. Sure, anything grilled in butter is good, but a dried-fish party at a patio pub in Gyodong is pure romance, so I'd order it again next time too >,<

Soft-serve dessert you can take to go
Nampo gives you soft-serve ice cream as a finishing dessert, and they even let you take it to go. I enjoyed it on the way to the subway.
Overall, both the food and service were satisfying, so I recommend Nampo to anyone looking for a date spot, a group gathering place, a Gyodong pub or a clam grill in Daegu.
