Hi, this is PD Eoyeoga! Hot weather lately, isn't it? I was looking for a good sushi place near Hayang Station and want to share where I ended up. I usually love aged sashimi and sushi, and at Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch (손시스시 하양점) I liked every piece more than the last. It works for a simple lunch and also suits a special day.

Sonsi Sushi is close to Hayang Station, so it's easy to reach. You can park in front of the shop, and there are plenty of public lots nearby (Hayang Station), so driving was easy too. I parked at Hayang Station and paid ₩600 for an hour. Super cheap! Being near the station made access great. There's a waiting area, and parking support was offered.

What's the inside like? 6 tables and an open kitchen

The inside was clean and cozy. With about 6 tables it isn't big, but that actually made it nice and quiet for a meal.

Open kitchen where the sushi is made in view

It's an open kitchen, so watching the sushi being made was fun. I went at lunchtime and the place filled up quickly while I was eating. It seems to already have a reputation by word of mouth as a go-to spot for Hayang Station and Daegu Catholic University students.

The value set: 10 aged sushi pieces + katsuo udon + chicken donburi

You order on a tablet at each seat, which was easy. The menu is large and varied. Since it's a university area, there were good-value options, so this time I ordered the value set (가심비 세트)!

It was a generous set: 10 pieces of aged sushi, katsuo udon (udon in bonito broth), and aged soy chicken donburi. I also added one piece of ankimo maki (monkfish liver roll). I was just so curious how it would taste!

One extra piece of ankimo maki

The aged sushi and ankimo maki

I tried the sushi first, and I could see why they specialize in aged sushi. The aged fish was soft and full of savory depth, and the rice (shari) wasn't too big, so the balance with the fish was really good. It loosened naturally in my mouth and brought out the flavor of aged fish. Personally, the sushi and the ankimo were the best things that day.

Ankimo is often called the foie gras of the sea, known for its rich, nutty flavor. It wasn't fishy at all and melted softly. It was just one piece, but it had real presence! The katsuo udon served with it was also clean and tasty.

The rich bonito broth was clean yet full of savory flavor, and sipping a spoonful between pieces of sushi refreshed my mouth so I could enjoy it to the end. The aged soy chicken donburi (토리동) was satisfying too.

Aged soy chicken donburi with salty soy seasoning

The salty soy seasoning went well with the tender chicken, a hearty way to finish the meal.

What makes Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch special

I felt Sonsi Sushi lives up to being a Hayang favorite, with a high standard for aged sushi. The fish, with its savory depth raised by aging, and the well-sized rice were balanced so well that I never got tired of it, right to the last piece. The set was really generous too, and getting good value on top was even better.

The portions were bigger than at a typical sushi place. You don't just eat sushi and finish; you get udon and donburi as well, so I was happy with both the value and the satisfaction. If you're looking for a great sushi place near Hayang Station, it's worth a visit at least once.
