Nobyeon-dong, Daegu galbi house with wild garlic leaves: Dugeundugeun
In short
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi is a newly opened charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant on Nobyeon-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. A couple ordered 3 servings of seasoned pork galbi around 9pm on a weeknight, added 1 more serving, and ate it with the free sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), jaeraegi (fresh seasoned salad) and myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves) before finishing with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). Because the owner, a longtime butcher, trims and marinates the meat himself, Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi's seasoned galbi stays firm and fresh, and it is a definite place to return to.

Today's post is about a brand new place near Nobyeon — and it's a BBQ restaurant, no less!! I heard a new spot opened up so I went to check it out, and the owner was so kind and the food was so good 🥹 More than anything, I'm just thrilled a place like this opened in my neighborhood, so I came to recommend it to you all haha! It's Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi!!
Where is Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi? Hours and parking
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi (두근두근숯불갈비) is located at 69 Nobyeon-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, and it's open daily from 11:30 to 22:30. Break time is 15:00–17:00, and last order is 22:00. You can park along the road in front of the restaurant. High chairs are also available.
It's on the side street next to Daegu Agricultural Meister High School and right in front of Suseong World Meridian apartments, so it seemed like a lot of apartment residents come here to eat!! It's also close to Sinmae Station, so accessibility is great haha.
We visited around 9pm on a weekday and it felt like people were just finishing up and heading out haha. I heard weekends and dinnertime get crowded! It's the kind of BBQ place that somehow makes your heart go dugeundugeun (thump-thump) walking in 😉
Inside Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi: interior and seating

Since Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi hasn't been open long, the interior was genuinely clean and pleasant the moment we walked in!!

There's also group seating, so it's great for gatherings haha. High chairs were ready and the indoor restroom was clean too, which was nice.
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi menu and prices

Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi's seasoned pork galbi is 200g per serving for ₩12,000. Here's the menu for anyone curious!
- Seasoned pork galbi — 200g, ₩12,000
- Fresh samgyeopsal (pork belly) — 150g, ₩13,000
- Fresh mokchal (pork neck) — 150g, ₩12,000
The price of the seasoned galbi felt very reasonable!! I later found out the owner has run a butcher shop nearby for a very long time, so I guess that's how you get good-quality meat at a fair price haha.

There are also lunch specials only available during lunch hours, like a pork bulgogi set and sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew)!!
And the amazing part...!! They're currently running an opening event with discounted drinks — soju and beer are ₩2,000!! Haha so we ended up having an unplanned somaek (soju-beer mix). This is exactly why having a good BBQ place in your neighborhood is the best!! We started off by ordering 3 servings of seasoned galbi for ₩36,000!!

How do the self-serve bar and free side dishes work?
At Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, side items like wrap vegetables and onion sauce are self-served from a bar next to the restaurant. You know how after ordering you have to get up and do a lap around the place, right haha.

Once you've finished the side dishes like wrap vegetables or onion sauce, you can just go grab more from the self-serve bar next to the restaurant.

The basic banchan included braised gungchae (dried radish greens) and especially this myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaf) which was so, so good... I lost count of how many refills I had haha.
Free fried egg and sundubu jjigae with every table
Before the meat comes out, Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi gives you a fried egg and a sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) full of egg as basic banchan. The fried egg is freshly made and warm, and starting with protein like this helps with blood sugar management, you know haha.
And then, after a bit more waiting, they bring out the egg-filled sundubu jjigae... and this is basic banchan!! It comes out bubbling, and the umami is amazing — the silky soft tofu tames the spiciness while staying pleasantly spicy, so good you wouldn't believe it's just a side dish ㅠㅠㅠ the kind of flavor you crave again...

Jaeraegi, the fresh salad that pairs perfectly with the meat
And this jaeraegi (fermented seasoning relish) was really, really delicious... there was still a lot of the sauce left after we finished eating, so I grabbed lettuce from the self-serve bar and tore it up to eat more with it haha. That's how well it went with the meat.

How does Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi's seasoned pork galbi taste?
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi's seasoned galbi had thick, firm texture like it hadn't been marinated for too long, with the sweet-salty seasoning soaked in nicely. Even with 3 servings, we were surprised at how much there was. With the drinks ready, let's get into the seasoned galbi properly ><

When it first came out on the plate, we were surprised at how much there seemed to be for 3 servings!! Even though it's seasoned galbi, the meat texture felt fresh, like it hadn't sat marinating too long, and the thick cuts had us feeling dugeundugeun (thump-thump) excited already haha.

You know seasoned galbi has to be grilled over charcoal to really taste right, right haha. They put it on the charcoal and grilled it well. Most seasoned galbi I've had before is usually marinated so long it's a bit mushy, but this one wasn't like that at all — the texture stayed firm and straight, almost like fresh samgyeopsal?!

Even grilled, the cuts stayed thick!! There was more lean meat than fat, so it grilled up nicely and quickly.

Ta-da!! Doesn't it look amazing ㅠㅠ Like I said earlier, I wondered if this seasoned galbi hadn't been marinated in the sauce for very long?! But actually, the original seasoning flavor itself was still sweet-salty and delicious, and it had soaked in well. There was no dry, mealy feeling — you could really tell the meat was fresh, like it combined the strengths of both raw meat and seasoned meat..!!

Seasoned pork galbi with jaeraegi and wild garlic leaves
Eaten with the jaeraegi I raved about earlier, the pairing was so good you could keep eating without getting tired of it...

It was also delicious eaten with myeongi-namul — even though it's seasoned galbi, the seasoning isn't too strong, so eating it with the seasoned vegetables actually tasted better to me!! Honestly though, the meat quality was so good that it tasted great no matter how we ate it haha.

Two people, 3 servings of galbi, then 1 more
We ended up ordering 1 more serving!! By the way, isn't 1 serving really a lot for the size?.. Even as a couple who eats a lot, we got seriously full.

Honestly, seasoned galbi places aren't that common these days, and ones that do it well are even rarer, but at Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, since the owner processes the meat himself at his butcher shop and seasons it himself too, it's fresh with a seasoning flavor that people of all ages would like — I think pretty much anyone would enjoy it without much divide in taste!! So I'll give this a 200% repeat visit intention.
Finishing with a hearty doenjang jjigae
At Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, after the galbi we finished off with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and two bowls of rice~~ Can you see the toppings in the doenjang jjigae though?? They put in so much that it was half broth, half ingredients haha.
Mixing the mushrooms and tofu into the rice and eating it worked as an instant hangover cure right after drinking..ㅋ The owner is really kind with a warm face too, and with his cooking skills on top of that, he's the kind of person you want to get to know... haha. The doenjang is genuinely delicious too, so after the galbi, definitely make sure to order it.
Is Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi worth a return visit?
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi is a BBQ place I'll definitely go back to whenever I crave seasoned galbi. On our way out, the owner even sent us off with yogurt for something sweet, and we ended up chatting quite a bit!!
He's also been running a butcher shop in Nobyeon for a very long time, so the meat's flavor and quality are really guaranteed!! I make a point of checking out every new BBQ place that opens in the neighborhood, and Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi today was, as expected, beyond my expectations!! It was such a satisfying meal that I'll definitely be back whenever I'm craving seasoned galbi haha. Recommending it to all of you too!!
