Daehangno restaurant with a restroom: cumin corn fritters set, Omil
In short
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is an omurice (rice omelet) and pasta restaurant on the 2nd floor along the way from Hyehwa Station Exit 4 to CGV in Jongno, Seoul. On a Daehangno date day, the writer arrived at Omil just after break time, waited about 10 minutes, and ordered the set for two: rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta and cumin-dusted corn fritters. With toy-topped omurice, high chairs and an indoor restroom, Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is the "Happy Meal of pasta" and a good stop with kids before a show.

It's been a while since our last Daehangno date! Daehangno is always packed with young energy, and it puts me in a good mood every time I go.
This is a good restaurant for when you want something not too heavy before a show, but also don't want to rush through fast food. It's Omil, a Hyehwa pasta spot that's great with kids.
How to park cheaply in Daehangno
Use a shared parking lot and Daehangno parking comes to ₩1,200 an hour. Hyehwa parking lots run about ₩3,000–4,000 an hour, so definitely use the shared parking lots through the "Modu-ui Jucha-jang" app. Parking in Daehangno is really, really hard.
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno location and waiting
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is on the 2nd floor of the row of buildings on the way from Hyehwa Station Exit 4 to CGV. Break time ends at 16:30, and when we walked in at 16:40 it was already full.

We signed up for the Tabling waitlist at the front of the shop. (We waited about 10 minutes before being seated.)

Omil's seating, high chairs and restroom
Inside, Omil is a cute little space. It isn't big, but it has a decent number of tables, and I really coveted the window seats. We couldn't wait for one, so we sat at a table for two!

Since lots of little kids come here, Omil has high chairs too. If you're looking for a Daehangno restaurant to take a child to, it's Omil, no question.
Visiting a restroom before a play in Daehangno would be great, but decent ones are hard to find. Omil has a restroom inside, so it's easier to eat and then go.
What we picked from Omil's set for two
Omil's set for two comes with 2 mains, 2 drinks and 1 side. It was our first time and the place is fairly new, so we played it safe and ordered the set for two.

The omurice, Omil's symbol and signature dish, was a must-order. Then gochujang butter pasta and corn fritters!

At the self-bar, you take as many pickles as you need.

Food is served fairly quickly, and the first things out were the omurice and the corn fritters.

Can you take the toys on Omil's omurice home?
Yes, you can take the toys on Omil's omurice home. I'd seen the omurice in lots of photos, and the quail eggs on top are the highlight.
☆★ And now!! The highlight ☆★ You can keep the toy on top of the omurice. Mine!! They put a rubber duck and a Halloween pumpkin toy on it together (probably an extra for the Halloween season), and how cute is that? No wonder so many people bring their kids~

It's a Hyehwa pasta place, so we had to have pasta, and it came out too. That thick red lump on top << is the gochujang butter. Mix it in well.
I tried the omurice first. The rice has a slight hint of ginger, and the brown sauce goes well with the fluffy eggs. One reason it's good with kids is that even if they don't eat the rice, the rubber duck toy and quail egg topping make it fun to look at.

How are Omil's corn fritters?
Omil's corn fritters come with the kernels cut off the cob, easy to pick at, with zira (cumin) powder(?) sprinkled on top for a spicy-salty-sweet flavor.

You put on disposable gloves and chomp the kernels off, and it isn't hard at all. I think adults will like the corn fritters more than little kids. (For kids sharing, choosing soba maki as the side would probably be better!)
Omil's gochujang butter pasta, eaten with the meat
With Omil's gochujang butter pasta, it's good to take a bite of well-mixed pasta together with the meat. The meat is sous vide steak, but it tastes like suyuk (boiled pork slices).

The rich, plain flavor goes so well with the gochujang butter pasta sauce.

I hadn't noticed the gochujang butter pasta in other reviews, but wow, it's really good?!! (thumbs up) Maybe the omurice and gochujang butter pasta just go well together, which made it taste even better...

The omurice isn't heavily seasoned, and its mild ginger and brown sauce make it soft in flavor,

while the gochujang butter pasta isn't intensely strong, but after the omurice it gives your taste buds a nice little kick. A nice combo.
The sizzling "chwiii-" dish we'll order next time
+) While we were eating, dishes kept sizzling their way ("chwiii-") to other tables, and I thought "What's that?" and checked the menu.

We left saying, let's order that next time! Every table was eating it without fail, so now we have a reason to come back soon.

Why I recommend Omil for a meal with kids before a Daehangno show
If you come to Daehangno to see a show with your kid and don't know what to eat, you have to stop by Omil, the Happy Meal of pasta. You get Hyehwa pasta and a toy. Two birds, one stone!
