When it comes to bread, I'm always an honest, no-frills reviewer 🖐️ Today I visited Munhwa Bakery, a place that's built up word of mouth among bread lovers and is often mentioned as a must-hit stop on a bakery-hopping route.
Usually if even one or two signature items at a bakery hit the mark, you feel like the trip was worth it. This time, after some thought, I picked up the three most basic yet telling items — garlic bread, injeolmi (soybean powder rice cake) bread, and milk cream bread. Spoiler up front: all three had distinct personalities and not a single one disappointed. Here's the full rundown.

Where is Munhwa Bakery and what are its hours?
Munhwa Bakery is located at 65 Donhwamun-ro, 1st floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Hours are 11:00 - 20:00.

The moment I arrived, the buttery, fresh-baked-bread smell made me stop in my tracks. The exterior was neat and tidy too, so first impressions were great.

The first bread I spotted was the garlic bread. The surface was glossy, generously coated in garlic butter sauce — the visuals alone were enough to make my mouth water.

What breads are in the Munhwa Bakery display case?
Stepping inside, the display case greets you with a colorful array of breads. The freshness of a same-day bakery comes through clearly even through the glass.

Golden-brown bagels stuffed with cream cheese were stacked up looking irresistible. Sesame seeds dotted the surface, and just looking at them you could sense the nutty flavor. I'm definitely grabbing one of these bagels next time!

Looking closer at the showcase, you could clearly make out each bread's texture and the heft of its cream, even through the glass. From the shiny, crisp-topped savory bread line to the fluffy, pale cream bread varieties, there was so much to feast your eyes on first. The turnover is so good that freshly restocked bread kept showing off its just-baked look, and it was hard to resist the happy temptation to pile everything into my tray beyond what I'd planned.

Garlic bread, injeolmi bread, milk cream bread. My trio, chosen carefully to balance sweet-savory, nuttiness, and softness. Just looking at the combo felt satisfying, and my anticipation grew the whole way home. Now, the exciting bread review!!

Milk cream bread: white cream that spills out of a simple bun
First up is the milk cream bread, which proves Munhwa Bakery's fundamentals. White and soft like a baby's cheek... an adorable bread, if I can say that (that sounds weird haha). Even a light squeeze reveals a fluffy, springy texture.
The moment I cut it in half, pure white cream came spilling out — it was that packed. There was none of the slickness or lingering heaviness typical of plant-based creams; instead, the fresh, rich flavor of real milk filled my mouth. It wasn't overly sweet, so I could finish it to the last bite without getting tired of it, in a clean, satisfying way.

Injeolmi bread: loaded with roasted soybean powder
Next up is the injeolmi bread, a sharpshooter for old-school palates. The whole surface was thickly coated in roasted soybean powder, and the nutty aroma hit me the moment I picked it up.
Cutting it in half revealed a rich cream and chewy bread texture, filled in harmony. One bite delivered a perfect trio: the deep nuttiness of the soybean powder, the chewy texture of the dough, and the sweetness of the soft cream packed inside. It went down clean without any heaviness — a flavor that both grandparents and younger folks alike would love.

Garlic bread: crisp outside, garlic butter soaked to the centre
Garlic bread often disappoints — either the outside is just hard, or the garlic flavor barely registers. Munhwa Bakery's version has sauce soaked deep into the bread. The outside is pleasantly crisp, while the inside bursts with a punchy garlic aroma and rich, sweet buttery flavor. The sweetness never overpowers, and the natural garlic flavor really shines through — I kept marveling as I ate.
Sweet-savory garlic bread, nutty injeolmi bread, and soft, clean milk cream bread — paired with coffee at home, it made for the ultimate dessert time.
Verdict on the three Munhwa Bakery breads, plus buying tips
All three breads I tried this time showed off distinct charm and exceeded expectations in quality.
- Garlic bread: the textbook definition of crisp outside, moist inside. Strongly recommended if you like a deep garlic butter flavor soaked all the way through.
- Injeolmi bread: generously dusted with nutty soybean powder, plus chewy dough and sweet cream in great balance — a must-pick for old-school tastes.
- Milk cream bread: clean, light, true milk flavor with no heaviness. Perfect when you want a bread that avoids excess sweetness and sticks to the basics.
If you visit Munhwa Bakery, you won't regret grabbing this trio! I'll be back with another delicious review soon haha.
