Looking for a bar in Yullyang-dong, Cheongju? I found a great local spot where you can take care of everything from drinks to late-night hangover food in one place.

After having sashimi and spicy fish stew for dinner, we came to Haengbokhan Udong Gage Cheongju Yullyang Branch (행복한우동가게 청주율량점) after 11 p.m. for a second round. Even at that late hour, it was packed with people, and I could immediately see how popular it is in Yullyang-dong.

Tofu kimchi and makgeolli: a ₩18,000 match

Since it was late, we ordered dubu kimchi (tofu with stir-fried kimchi) and makgeolli (Korean rice wine), thinking we'd just have a drink or two. The dubu kimchi was ₩18,000 and generous enough for three people. The tofu was tasty on its own, but it was especially delicious with the kimchi.

It pairs wonderfully with alcohol, making it an easy late-night snack to enjoy with a shot of soju or makgeolli. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful too, which makes the meal even more enjoyable.

Easygoing prices, from udon to rice bowls

Looking over the full menu, the prices were generally very reasonable. Popular choices such as kaki udon, kimchi udon, and chili udon, along with fish cake udon, mori soba, and spicy mixed udon, were all an easy ₩8,500 to ₩9,500. Being able to enjoy a hot bowl of udon for that price is such a draw—if this were Seoul, it would probably cost over ₩10,000.

The rice dishes are great too. Squid rice bowls, spicy pork rice bowls, and old-fashioned pork cutlets are around ₩10,500 to ₩11,000, making them just right for an office-worker lunch or dinner. I think it would be a solid choice if you're looking for a good restaurant in Yullyang-dong during the day. Of course, at night you can soothe a hangover with hot udon broth, so it is also perfect as the final stop after drinks.

Haengbokhan Udong Gage Cheongju Yullyang Branch says it gives a ₩30,000 coupon to a follower-event winner, selected on the first day of every month. There is also a nice Naver review event: choose one free item from honey tomatoes, a soft drink, soju, or beer. I hear the pork cutlet is delicious too—if I won that ₩30,000 coupon, I feel like I could come here every day just for the pork cutlet.

Why it is ideal for one last drink after round two or three

Above all, the biggest advantage is that you can visit late at night. Customers were still continuously coming in after 11 p.m. The menu is especially appealing because it has something everyone can enjoy. After a second or third round at a Yullyang-dong bar in Cheongju, it is just the place for a final drink, hangover food, or a lighter meal.

It is located at 31 Yullyang-ro 190beon-gil. The hours are great too: it is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays, and until 3 a.m. on Fridays. In other words, visiting late at night is no problem at all.
