Jongno 3-ga Korean BBQ for a Thursday team dinner: Cham Dwaejitgan
In short
Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch is a pork belly and ogyeopsal (skin-on five-layer pork belly) Korean BBQ restaurant on the first floor of the Piccadilly CGV building in Jongno 3-ga, Seoul. On a Thursday after work, a group of colleagues had a team dinner of staff-grilled ogyeopsal (19,000 won) with potato slices and mushroom wasabi, plus kudzu cold noodles, steamed egg and a milk thistle giveaway. Because the staff grill the meat all the way through, nobody has to man the grill, which makes Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch a satisfying choice for a Jongno team dinner.

It had been a while, so I went out after work with my colleagues for a small(?) get-together that doubled as a team dinner. I found a record-breakingly satisfying pork belly place in Jongno and rushed home to write it up! It's already the talk of office workers nearby, judging by the crazy waiting lines: Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch (참돼짓간 종로본점)!
Where is Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch, and what are the hours?
Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch is at 1-89 Piccadilly CGV Theater 1F, 1 Donhwamun-ro 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and it is open daily 12:00 - 23:00. There's no parking, but reservations are possible.

It's on the first floor of the Piccadilly CGV theater building, so even people with a terrible sense of direction can find it easily. It's close to Jongno 3-ga Station too, so access is the best.

What was the wait like at 6 PM on a Thursday?
We arrived at Cham Dwaejitgan around 6:20 PM on a Thursday and wow... the place was already almost full. Only two seats were left, so we narrowly escaped a wait! If we'd been a little later, we'd have waited for sure.
Ordering and the basic table setup

You order on the tablet at each table. We sat down and immediately went on an ordering spree. Our picks: ogyeopsal, mulnaengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), steamed egg, plus soju, beer and cola!

The basic table setup arrives right after you order, and it was so fast that I loved it. Speed tailored to Korean office workers, you could say? 😂 The staff even cut up the kimchi and water dropwort (minari) and grill them together for you!

My top dipping sauce: mushroom wasabi
Cham Dwaejitgan gives you no fewer than 5 dipping sauces for the meat! Spicy sauce / wasabi / mushroom wasabi / salt / ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). Of these, my number one was definitely the mushroom wasabi! It's sharp yet fragrant and cuts right through the richness of the meat. Honestly, it's addictive. You have to try it!!

Apart from the side dishes that are served, all other side dishes are self-service.

Order alcohol and you get milk thistle?
When we ordered alcohol at Cham Dwaejitgan, they brought out milk thistle, a liver supplement, along with it?! They said it's an ongoing event, and the owner's thoughtfulness is just... 🥹 I teared up, loaded up and drank away. (Well, "I" only had cola, haha)
Side menu: kudzu mulnaengmyeon ₩7,000 and steamed egg ₩5,000

The mulnaengmyeon at Cham Dwaejitgan is ₩7,000, and it's not regular buckwheat noodles but kudzu noodles, so they're super chewy. On a hot day like this, cold noodles are a must! The broth was refreshing too, perfect for cleansing the palate before the meat.

The steamed egg (₩5,000) was fluffy and perfectly seasoned, really good. Our team leader loved it and wolfed it down. Officially approved by the team leader as delicious 👍
Staff-grilled ogyeopsal ₩19,000 with potato slices

The ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) at Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch is ₩19,000, and uniquely it comes with potato slices. And here at last are the stars of the show: the pork belly and potato slices.

Why it's good for team dinners: staff grill to the end
One reason Cham Dwaejitgan is great is that the staff grill the meat for you from start to finish!

At a team dinner, it's awkward when one person is stuck grilling and can't join the conversation. At Cham Dwaejitgan you just chat and eat, which was so comfortable.

Potato slice + pork belly + mushroom wasabi
As the staff recommended, I put pork belly on a potato slice, topped it with mushroom wasabi and took a bite... wow!! It really melts away in your mouth. I only just learned that potatoes go so well with meat. 🤤 Add the grilled kimchi and fragrant water dropwort and I couldn't stop my chopsticks. My colleagues all praised it endlessly as they dug in too.

When we finished and paid happily, there were already 4 teams waiting at the door. I felt proud that we'd found a proper Jongno pork belly spot.
Verdict: is it a good Jongno 3-ga team dinner spot?

If you're looking for a clean, tasty meat restaurant near Jongno 3-ga, or a foolproof place for a team dinner or gathering, I wholeheartedly recommend the great-value Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch! 👍
