I love claypot rice (sotbap) so much I'd wake up from a deep sleep for it. Today's spot is one my feet have already visited countless times: Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon (동양솥밥 산본점), my real neighborhood regular! I got the chance to visit as a sponsored reviewer this time. But a soulless review where I only say nice things just because I won? Absolutely not. It's in the Sanbon Central Shopping District, my turf (?), and I've been several times already, a true "local-certified" place, so I'll write this more honestly and vividly than ever!😋
Where is Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon, and what are the hours?
Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is at 10-18 Sanbon-ro 323beon-gil, Gunpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, 2nd floor, Unit 203, and it's open Monday to Sunday, 11:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:00). There's no parking, but high chairs are available.

Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is right in the middle of the Sanbon Central Shopping District, on the 2nd floor of the building with Juicy.

There's an elevator, but impatient me happily took the stairs.😉
What are the interior and seating like?

I came at an awkward time on a weekday, and there were still quite a few customers inside. A good restaurant really doesn't care what time it is!

The whole place felt very clean and comfortable. The tables are well laid out from seats for 2 up to 4, so it's perfect for solo meals in Sanbon, family dinners or even a date.
Order by tablet, extra side dishes are self-serve

At Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon you just tap through the tablet ordering screen at each table. It's nice because you can pick your menu slowly without feeling rushed.

Water and extra side dishes are at the self-serve bar. Just take what you can eat, that's the polite thing to do!
What we ordered: abalone claypot rice, pork jowl claypot rice, honey guobaorou

We ordered Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon's signature abalone claypot rice, the pork jowl claypot rice, and honey guobaorou (Chinese-style sweet and sour fried pork) as a side. The food came out faster than I expected, a serving speed that hungry office workers and busy modern people will love.
🦪 Abalone claypot rice (highly recommended as a restorative meal after a checkup at Wonkwang Hospital!)

The abalone claypot rice is a great choice after a health checkup or appointment at Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital. The nutty aroma was overwhelming the moment it arrived! Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon is right in front of Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital, you know? If you're looking for a first meal after a full checkup or hospital visit that's gentle but nutritious, this is perfect.
The seasoning was just right, so there was no need to add anything. Best of all, abalone is hard to enjoy when it's tough, but this wasn't tough at all, it was tender and chewy, the very definition of it. Bring your parents and you'll definitely get compliments.
🐷 Pork jowl claypot rice (the regular's number one pick)

The pork jowl claypot rice is my fixed order, the one I always get every time I come to Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon. Thick, satisfyingly chewy pork jowl is soaked through with a sweet-and-salty special sauce (the sweet-salty-sweet-salty combo), and one bite makes you exclaim out loud. As my favorite, it was a huge success again. If you like meat, definitely order this one!

Finish the claypot rice with nurungji

Both the abalone and pork jowl claypot rice at Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon come with nurungji (scorched rice) to enjoy after the meal. About 80% of why I love claypot rice is this nurungji. Finishing with that hot, nutty broth settles your stomach so comfortably and completes a perfect meal. Nurungji lovers, you'll be lying down here for good❤️
How was the side dish, honey guobaorou?

The honey guobaorou is just right as a side when claypot rice alone feels like not enough! It's like a glutinous-rice tangsuyuk (Korean sweet and sour pork), crispy outside and chewy inside, coated in sweet sauce, and a great cheat code to nibble between bites of claypot rice. The price isn't a burden either, so I strongly recommend it as a side.
A local regular's overall verdict on Dongyang Sotbap Sanbon

I visited as a sponsored reviewer, but since it's a place I go often, it was even more of a joy. The food is clean, comes out fast, and above all the flavor balance is really good. If you're looking for a filling, healthy meal in the Sanbon Central Shopping District or searching for a good restaurant near Wonkwang Hospital, don't hesitate to visit. A locally guaranteed, genuine Gunpo Sanbon favorite!👍
