Oden bar in Sinsa Garosu-gil with homemade broth: Ilpyeondengsim
In short
Ilpyeondengsim Sinsa (일편뎅심 신사직영점) is a premium oden bar (Japanese fish cake bar) in an alley at the far end of Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, serving handmade fish cakes, individual homemade broth and jizake from regional Japanese breweries. After booking on Naver and arriving at opening time, the writer paired basic oden with cheese oden and mul-tteok (rice cake in broth), the signature consommé oden, soy-braised daikon, atsuage (fried tofu) and flatfish carpaccio with a glass of Sekitoba matcha shochu and a non-alcoholic highball. Verdict: thanks to its deep oden broth and varied dishes, Ilpyeondengsim Sinsa is an atmospheric Sinsa izakaya for drinks and good conversation.

I was looking for a nice bar in Sinsa-dong and ended up at Iltteopdaengsim Sinsa (일편뎅심 신사)! It has a different charm from a typical izakaya (Japanese pub): a premium oden bar where you enjoy handmade fish cakes in warm broth alongside all kinds of drinks.
You know those days when you don't want a rowdy pub, just a drink and a good conversation in a nice atmosphere? This Sinsa izakaya is perfect for those days 🤎

What is Ilpyeondengsim, the premium oden bar in Sinsa?

Iltteopdaengsim is a premium oden bar that started in Bundang in 2019, building a space where good food, good drinks and good people come together.
🍢 It offers handmade fish cakes, individual homemade broth and jizake (local sake) selected from breweries across Japan, so you can enjoy oden and alcohol together ◡̈

I booked through Naver and they even gave me a welcome card ◡̈
Do you need a reservation at Ilpyeondengsim Sinsa?
I recommend booking through Naver or contacting them beforehand. 🧚🏻♀️ I went right at opening time and it filled up fast, really!
An oden bar where staff take your order, not a tablet

What impressed me at this Sinsa oden bar is that there are no tablets or call buttons; the staff talk with guests and serve them directly.

They guided us carefully from ordering to explaining the dishes, so I could feel the warm atmosphere an oden bar is known for.
Ilpyeondengsim menu and 4,000 won setting fee

Here's the menu. It's not only oden: there are soy-braised dishes, main dishes like sashimi and flatfish, meals such as udon and rice bowls, fried food and sides. So many tasty options 👍
📍 There's a basic setting fee of ₩4,000 per person. It includes 3 basic oden per table, individual homemade broth and an otoshi (small appetizer). Good to know up front that the setting fee is charged separately 🤍
From sake to shochu: the Ilpyeondengsim drinks list

This is the drink lineup: highballs, sake, namazake, daiginjo, ginjo, junmai, honjozo, shochu and more. ✨ You can order by the bottle or by the glass.
Basic oden with cheese oden and mul-tteok added

These are the 3 basic oden :) We added cheese oden and mul-tteok (chewy rice cake skewers) to the basics.
Drinks by the glass on Garosu-gil: Sekitoba matcha shochu

We came to a Japanese-style oden bar, so of course we couldn't skip Japanese shochu! The Sekitoba matcha shochu by the glass was a great pick when you want a Japanese-style drink that's different from regular beer or highballs.
A non-alcoholic highball for friends who don't drink
My friend ordered the non-alcoholic highball, which tastes like a highball with a hongcho (Korean pomegranate vinegar drink) base :) I liked that even if someone in your group doesn't drink, they can still choose the non-alcoholic highball haha.
Everyone can pair a drink to their own taste with the oden, so it would also work as a date spot in Sinsa 👍

You can cut the skewers up and eat them like oden soup, or put the skewers in your own bowl like this haha. The oden broth is so good 😭👍 It's deep without being too strong.
What does Ilpyeondengsim's signature consommé oden taste like?

The signature consommé oden was one of the dishes I was curious about this time! It adds a consommé style to familiar Japanese-style fried oden, so I enjoyed it expecting a different flavor from regular oden.

I had the Sekitoba matcha shochu on the rocks, nice and cold 🥃 Poured into a glass of ice, it went well with the oden. I could slowly savor the distinctive flavor of Japanese shochu in a lovely atmosphere!
Soy-braised daikon radish

Daikon is something you really can't skip at an oden bar. Simmered through in soy broth, it has a soft texture and soaks up the flavor of the broth, I'm tearing up 😭
The radish goes so well with the salty seasoning! Besides fish cakes, there are also dishes like radish where you can taste the ingredient itself, so it's fun to pick according to your taste.
Atsuage (deep-fried tofu)
Next up is atsuage! It's Japanese-style fried tofu, with soft tofu inside and a nutty, crispy outside.
Among the warm, brothy dishes, it suits you when you want a side with a different texture. It's also good to order when oden alone feels like not enough haha.
Flatfish carpaccio for a fresh contrast

Sipping the shochu made me crave raw fish, so I ordered the flatfish carpaccio! After eating mostly warm, brothy dishes you start thinking of something fresh, and carpaccio seems a great match.
You can enjoy warm broth dishes and light seafood together, so it's a good setup for a meal-slash-drinking session.

We cleaned our plates at Iltteopdaengsim >.< I officially approve it as a great Sinsa Garosu-gil spot. The oden broth is so good and the dishes are varied, so this Sinsa izakaya has plenty of choices haha.
Is Ilpyeondengsim good for group get-togethers in Sinsa?
Iltteopdaengsim Sinsa also has a room for 3 to 6 people, so I think it's good for anyone looking for a gathering spot around Sinsa Garosu-gil ◡̈
Looking for a date-night bar in Gangnam's Garosu-gil?

Iltteopdaengsim Sinsa is a premium oden bar where you can enjoy handmade fish cakes, individual broth and jizake from Japanese regional breweries. I also liked that you can mix familiar oden like mul-tteok and radish with atsuage, signature consommé oden and flatfish carpaccio 🤍
It's great for sake or shochu fans, and also for people who want a non-alcoholic highball, so it should work for friends with different tastes too! If you're looking for a different kind of izakaya or a second-round bar near Sinsa-dong or Garosu-gil, put Iltteopdaengsim Sinsa on your list for a relaxed drink with warm oden!
