What is Hodu Kkakki Brothers like?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까closed형제) is a walnut pie specialty shop in Dogok-dong, close to Yangjae Station. Everyone I've shared it with seems to love it, so I finally went to check it out! It gets a great reaction as an office snack, and I'd also recommend it as a housewarming gift or a thank-you gift for weddings and baby's first birthday parties.
It's also close to Yangjaecheon Stream, so it's easy to grab on a nice day for a picnic, and it's a dessert that kids and grown-ups alike are happy with :)
Hodu Kkakki Brothers hours, parking and directions
Hodu Kkakki Brothers is open on weekdays from 11 AM to 9 PM (break time 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM), on Saturdays from 11 AM to 8 PM, and on Sundays from 11 AM to 7 PM. It's a 2-minute walk from Yangjae Station Exit 4, so it's easy to reach by public transport.
- Weekdays: 11 AM - 9 PM
- Break time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
- Saturday: 11 AM - 8 PM
- Sunday: 11 AM - 7 PM
The shop has no parking lot of its own, but takeout customers can park briefly (within 5 minutes) at the alley intersection in front of the shop. If you need to park longer, use a nearby parking lot.
It's a takeout-only shop, so you can't eat inside, but packing is quick and they also take parcel orders, so it's a Dogok-dong dessert you can easily enjoy at home too.

Set menus and prices at Hodu Kkakki Brothers
There are Mix 1, 2 and 3 sets, and the mix pie set and cream pie set, where you pick the pies yourself, are ₩35,900. Buying a set is a bit better value than buying pies one by one.
- Mix 1: no cream pies; recommended for beginners who want to try a variety of nut pies
- Mix 2: classic flavors plus cream pies, a combination women in particular will like
- Mix 3: built around walnut and pecan pies, the roots of the walnut pie
- Also: a mix pie set where you pick your own pies, and a set made only of cream pies, are also available for ₩35,900
I used to think you had to choose only from the fixed sets, but once I learned there's a mix pie set where you can freely put together the pies you want, I was much happier with it. Picking your favorite flavors is just better!

Dubai crispy pie and the mini half-and-half pie set
Hodu Kkakki Brothers also has a Dubai crispy pie that follows the Dubai dessert trend you can't escape these days, so now you can have walnut pie in Dubai style too. The mini half-and-half pie set, which lets you try a mini walnut pie and a mini pecan pie together, is ₩21,000.
The small mini walnut and mini pecan pies are easy on the wallet, so they looked good as a light snack or a small thank-you gift. The mini half-and-half set also seemed like a low-pressure way for first-time visitors to taste things.

How are the coffee and drinks?
It's a sugar-free handmade walnut pie shop, but the coffee is good too, so it goes well with the pies. They say they use a special blend of Guatemalan, Ethiopian and Kenyan beans, fire-roasted, and it felt like they cared about the coffee even though they're a walnut pie specialist.
Besides coffee and lattes, they have a good range of drinks like tea and ades, so it's easy for non-coffee drinkers to visit too. The shop also displays a certification notice for a pest-control-managed space, so it was a Dogok-dong café you can eat at with peace of mind.

Packing a Mix 2 set and the matcha cream walnut pie
The standard box holds 8 pieces on one tray. This day I ordered Mix 2 and asked for it packed in separate packs of 4. The 8-piece box holds the pies firmly in place so they don't shake while you carry it, and the individual boxes are sturdy too, so there's no worry on the way.
Personally, the matcha cream walnut pie was my favorite: soft cream with a slightly bitter matcha flavor, and I'd recommend it if you like matcha :)

How should you store the walnut pies?
The walnut pies are tastier refrigerated and eaten cold, and if you won't eat them right away, you can freeze them for up to 30 days. I ordered the Mix 2 set, and they split it half and half by flavor.
Eaten cold, the cream feels more stable and the texture improves, so I recommend refrigerating rather than leaving them at room temperature! They can be frozen too, so once you buy them you can enjoy them at home for a long time :)

Who is Hodu Kkakki Brothers for?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a walnut pie shop selling sugar-free handmade pies baked in the shop every day, made with good ingredients, so it's a Dogok-dong dessert that's easy to enjoy without guilt. Even one pie is more filling than you'd expect, so it's good for kids' snacks, office group snacks, wedding and first-birthday thank-you gifts and housewarming presents. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a healthier dessert :)
