Wolsan-dong pocha in Gwangju: 5pm king shrimp and free pancakes
Hwanggeum Hoe Pocha Gwangju Wolsan Branch is a sashimi and seafood pocha on Gunbun-ro in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, serving king shrimp in its autumn season. On a weekday visit at 5pm, the writer ordered raw shrimp sashimi and grilled king shrimp side by side and worked through the free sides — seaweed soup, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and baek-kimchi — plus a self-serve corner for frying your own pancakes. Raw shrimp sashimi felt unfamiliar on a first try, but the plump, nutty grilled king shrimp was the clear favourite.
