Affordable hanwoo BBQ in Suseong, Daegu: ₩11,900 sirloin at Jangpro
In short
Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal (장프로한우갈빗살) is a budget-friendly Korean beef restaurant on Deuran-ro in Suseong, Daegu, that serves only 100% hanwoo from nureongi (native Korean yellow cattle). The blogger ordered 400g of hanwoo sirloin makgui (roughly cut grilled sirloin), mixed mushrooms, hanwoo rib doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), braised hanwoo rib meat and mulnaengmyeon (cold noodles), and the sirloin makgui at 11,900 won made hanwoo far easier on the wallet. Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal is a good-value hanwoo spot in Daegu's Hwanggeum-dong area for family dinners or company gatherings.

Hi, it's Chae Bibi :-) Hanwoo (Korean beef) prices these days make it hard to eat often, so I visited Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal, a well-known spot in Daegu's Hwanggeum-dong, where you can enjoy 100% hanwoo at a gentle price.

Only 100% hanwoo from nureongi cattle

One sign really caught my eye: "Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal serves only 100% hanwoo (nureongi)." Even among hanwoo the quality varies these days, so a place that uses only nureongi, a native Korean breed, felt all the more trustworthy.
Hanwoo sirloin makgui at ₩11,900: what we ordered

This time we ordered 400g of hanwoo sirloin makgui (한우 등심막구이, casually cut grilled sirloin), mixed mushrooms, hanwoo rib doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and braised hanwoo galbi-sal (갈비살찜). A generous spread!

What surprised me most was that the hanwoo sirloin makgui is ₩11,900! Hardly anywhere sells hanwoo at this price these days, so the value is really good.
Banchan and the self-serve bar

This is the basic table setting at Jangpro. The green onion kimchi was freshly tossed, like silbi kimchi, so it tasted fresh and delicious!

There's a self-serve bar, so if you run out of side dishes, just go and grab more yourself!
How does the 400g hanwoo sirloin makgui taste?

The sirloin had nicely balanced marbling and the meat color looked fresh. Once it hit the grill, a nutty aroma spread quickly.

One bite was chewy yet tender, and the more I chewed, the more I tasted that rich, nutty hanwoo flavor. It wasn't too greasy, so even a lot of it didn't feel heavy, and it's a great dish to share with family.

Once again I was reminded that good meat tastes great without much seasoning.
Hanwoo rib doenjang jjigae

The hanwoo rib doenjang jjigae we ordered alongside was really satisfying too. Unlike an ordinary doenjang jjigae, it has hanwoo ribs in it, so the broth was much deeper and richer. The savory soybean paste plus the umami of the beef meant a spoonful between bites of meat left my mouth feeling refreshed. It's also perfect with a bowl of rice.
The most memorable dish: braised hanwoo galbi-sal

Personally, the dish that impressed me most was the braised hanwoo galbi-sal (galbi-sal-jjim). It looked appetizing from the start, and on the first bite the spicy yet sweet sauce with a strong garlic aroma was really appealing. The portion looked small, but since it's boneless meat, the amount was just right as a side dish for rice.

There were plenty of glass noodles (dangmyeon) inside that had soaked up the sauce, and eaten together with the galbi meat it was really good. The sauce was so tasty I wanted to mix it into my rice, and it goes wonderfully as a rice side dish.
Finishing with mulnaengmyeon

To cleanse the palate I also ordered refreshing mulnaengmyeon (cold buckwheat-style noodles in chilled broth). Nothing resets your mouth after meat like cold noodles, haha. With the various side menus at this Hwanggeum-dong favorite, I enjoyed grilled hanwoo cheaply.
Worth a visit for a family dinner or company gathering?

What I liked most was that the meat quality was really good for the price. Jangpro serves only 100% hanwoo (nureongi), so I could eat with confidence, and thanks to the reasonable prices hanwoo didn't feel like a burden.

I usually think of hanwoo as food for special days only, but this place seems easy to visit for a family meal, a get-together with friends or a company dinner. With eating-out prices so high these days, being able to enjoy fresh hanwoo at this price is probably its biggest strength. If you're looking for a good restaurant in Hwanggeum-dong, Daegu, or a good-value hanwoo place in Suseong, give Jangpro a try.

The reasonably priced hanwoo sirloin makgui, the deeply flavored hanwoo rib doenjang jjigae and the spicy-sweet braised galbi-sal were all satisfying. I'd like to come back to try other hanwoo dishes next time. Jangpro, a good-value hanwoo spot in Hwanggeum-dong, Daegu that delivers on both taste and price, is one I recommend to hanwoo lovers.
