I opened my eyes to eel rice bowls after a trip to Japan... and while searching for a good eel bowl in Gangnam, I found a crazy good place? I went with a blogger discount, but honestly Manmok at Seolleung Station is guaranteed to be amazing? delicious? If you want the kind of eel you eat in Japan, I highly, highly, highly recommend it!

Three reasons to try Manmok near Seolleung Station
Manmok's highlights are the eel, the spacious and pretty space, and the free dessert. I have three reasons to recommend it!
- 1️⃣ The eel is delicious. The side dishes are amazing too
- 2️⃣ A quietly pretty interior and roomy space (looks fine for a group dinner too)
- 3️⃣ Free black tea ice cream or matcha for dessert
I hope more of these sincere little restaurants do well... 🩷 so this is a 100% honest review, haha
Does Manmok have seating for solo meals, dates and group dinners?
Manmok near Seolleung Station has solo tables, partitioned seats and wide group tables. The seating is set up to welcome many kinds of guests. First, a solo table where you can dine alone.

A partitioned spot that's great for dates

A roomy table for a group dinner

The distance between tables is generous too.
Is there parking at Manmok?
Manmok has parking for 2-3 cars in front of the restaurant. If you tell the owner beforehand, he'll clear a spot for you!

Manmok's table setting and house sauces
Manmok specializes in eel rice bowls and grilled eel. Let me show you the table setting first.

They set the reserved table with these pretty ceramic dishes, I'm so touched... 😭

These sauces are the owner's own recipes, and the mushroom salt was my favorite.

Taking photos of each other with my partner while waiting for the food... haha

After you order, they first bring chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard). It had shrimp in it and was a silky, soft Japanese-style egg custard.

Is one grilled eel with two bowls of rice enough for two at Manmok?
We ordered 1 grilled eel and 2 bowls of rice at Manmok and shared them, and the amount suited two people! If you eat a bit more, just order one rice bowl each!!
The grilled eel is insanely glossy..... The eel was tender, lightly salty and full of flavor.

Best side dish and sauce combo for Manmok's grilled eel
Manmok serves 4 sauces and 7 side dishes, so it's fun to try each one and find the combo you like, haha. I tried all the salads and seasoned vegetables! Personally, I absolutely loved this pickled wild garlic (myeongi-namul) combo.

Put eel / mushroom sauce / pickled wild garlic on your rice and eat it!

... Ahh, you turn into Giyoung trying a banana for the first time 😭 (a Korean meme about being amazed by a first taste)

So neat and tidy, hahaha. If it were me, I'd bring a blind date here. You can eat prettily + it's protein

Grilled eel with yuzu pickled radish wrap
I liked this yuzu pickled radish (ssambu) combo too. The yuzu pieces are the kicker: when things get a little greasy, the yuzu wipes that right away, haha.

Grilled eel with wasabi and salt
My partner said wasabi with salt was the best. Which means the natural taste of the eel itself is the best, right? hahaha. I'm attaching the menu too!!

What else is on Manmok's menu besides eel?
Manmok's signature dishes are grilled eel and eel rice bowls! There are also sides like Hanwoo (Korean beef) tartare~ The alcohol menu beyond the eel is top-notch too. Sadly we had brought the car, so we couldn't drink~
Manmok's free dessert: black tea ice cream or matcha
Near the end of your meal, the owner comes over to ask about dessert!! You get a free dessert and can choose between ice cream and matcha. We asked for the black tea ice cream.

Even the ice cream is served so neatly... It was chewy with a strong black tea flavor. A great way to finish the meal. Manmok is truly my kind of place...
