Nokdo Susan (녹도수산) is a raw fish shop in Daecheon Port Fish Market in Boryeong, and this time we bought seasonal turban shells (sora, a sea snail) and rockfish sashimi there. Whenever we go to Daecheon, we look for a good spot in the fish market, and Nokdo Susan is one we always stop by because the staff are so kind and great at recommending tasty things! There are really a lot of raw fish shops in Daecheon Port Fish Market, but I hope you'll give Nokdo Susan a visit!

Nokdo Susan cuttlefish price and seasonal turban shells
Nokdo Susan sells seasonal cuttlefish at ₩20,000 for one large one, but we picked the turban shells, which were even more in season. Seocheon was holding a cuttlefish festival (the Kkolgap Festival) around then, and Nokdo Susan had cuttlefish for sale too! It looked very fresh, and since it's the season, I'm sure it would have been delicious, but we fell for the even-more-in-season turban shells and decided to go with those.

How much is rockfish sashimi at Daecheon Port Fish Market?
Rockfish at Nokdo Susan is ₩30,000 per kg, perfect for slicing into sashimi and then boiling the rest into spicy stew. Besides cuttlefish, Nokdo Susan has blue crab, sea squirt, clams, rockfish, sea bream, flounder and more, basically everything! We usually eat rockfish all the time, but at Daecheon Port it was so fresh and flopping around that we decided to have rockfish sashimi! The flounder looked good too!

Holiday gift sets and semi-dried fish at Nokdo Susan
Inside Nokdo Susan you can also buy holiday gift sets and semi-dried fish. Gift sets are available as you can see when you walk in, so check the photos if you're curious, and there's a ton of semi-dried fish too, so if you're planning to buy some, Nokdo Susan is a good place to do it!

Onnuri vouchers and spicy stew seasoning at Nokdo Susan
Nokdo Susan accepts Onnuri vouchers (traditional market gift vouchers), including mobile Onnuri vouchers. You can also buy spicy stew seasoning for ₩7,000, so even if you didn't prepare anything, this one packet is all you need! It looks like Nokdo Susan was once on the TV show 6 O'Clock My Hometown (6시 내고향), because there was a photo hanging up!

How many rockfish and turban shells per kg, and how was the packing?
Rockfish at Nokdo Susan was 2 fish per kg, and turban shells were 3 per kg. The turban shells really must be in season, they're so good! Please, you have to try them! They packed everything carefully and even added ice packs.

How to steam turban shells at a pension without cooking tools
We put the turban shells from Nokdo Susan in a pot and steamed them as soon as we got to the pension. Since it's a pension and not home, there weren't any fancy cooking tools, so Mom flipped a bowl upside down in the pot to keep the shells out of the water and steamed them that way :) Mom's wisdom really can't be beat,, I guess.

Nokdo Susan rockfish sashimi and the free sea squirt
Nokdo Susan also gave us sea squirt (meongge) as a free extra, and slicing 2 rockfish gave us just the right amount. You know how sashimi tastes super sweet if you eat sea squirt first, right?

Wrapped in perilla leaves and vegetables picked from a farm, it was so good! The rockfish at Nokdo Susan was full of energy and really chewy and delicious, so next time we go, we'll definitely take the rockfish sashimi again. And please try the turban shells in season! I'm a total turban shell addict, and I think these were the best I've had in my whole life!

Rockfish spicy stew, and asking for extra bones
Finally, we made spicy stew (maeuntang) with the rockfish from Nokdo Susan. Since we had the rockfish sliced for sashimi, the bones went into the stew too, and when I asked if they could give us a few more bones, they added one more rockfish head, so we had a hearty meal. If you're looking for a good raw fish shop in Daecheon Port Fish Market, I sincerely recommend Nokdo Susan!
