Cheonan bakery café for a vanilla toffee nut latte: Steel Green Bakery

Steel Green Bakery is a large bakery café at Cheonheung 4-gil in Seonggeo-eup, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. On an opening-run visit with a younger sibling, the writer picked a mochi bagel and jam set (₩4,000), long sausage bread and cake from the freshly stocked shelves, plus Steel Green Bakery's signature vanilla toffee nut latte. With good bread and coffee, a large parking lot and group seating on the 2nd and 3rd floors, Steel Green Bakery is an easy one-stop spot in Cheonan for bread and coffee.

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant on Pyeongnam-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, specializing in mulchong clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup). While most restaurants open at 11, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu opens at 10:30, so the writer and a friend came for brunch and ordered the 2-person set: bossam (boiled pork), napa cabbage kimchi mandu (dumplings), mulchong clam kalguksu and sagyejeol (four-season) fried rice with minari (water dropwort). For a hearty early meal, the 2-person set at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is well worth it.

Pyeongtaek pork galbi, group room booking with free yukhoe: Ihwajeong

Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant on Manse-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch with parents and a baby, the writer ordered 3 servings of pork galbi with lettuce wraps from the self-serve bar and garlic scape and seasoned crab (yangnyeom gejang) side dishes. The staff explained that booking the 5–8 person open room or a group of up to 32 comes with complimentary yukhoe (Korean beef tartare). Ihwajeong's generous, tender pork galbi makes it a good fit for family meals with grandparents and babies.
