Gongdeok brunch spot for big eaters: mashed potato & egg in hell, HEOD
In short
HEOD Gongdeok (해옫 공덕), also called HEOD Mapo, is a Western-style brunch restaurant near Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul, with window seats facing Gyeongui Line Forest Park. A big-eating couple booked through Naver and shared chicken mashed potato (₩19,800), egg in hell (₩16,800) and scallion pork jowl oil pasta (₩19,800), and they enjoyed how the potato sauce, the oil and the tomato sauce each took the meal in a different direction. For two people who want to share several generous brunch dishes, HEOD Gongdeok is a good choice.

HEOD Mapo, a Gongdeok brunch spot: should you reserve?
HEOD Mapo is a newly opened brunch spot near Gongdeok and Daeheung Station, and if you book through Naver you can eat without waiting. So I recommend reserving before you go.
When you're in the mood for a relaxed brunch, you want pasta, and you also don't want to miss a dish with bread. This time I picked HEOD Mapo in Gongdeok! It's worth a look if you're searching for a Gongdeok pasta restaurant or brunch near Daeheung Station.
Window seats facing the forest park and the atmosphere at HEOD Mapo
HEOD Mapo offers window seats facing the forest park, which catch your eye on days you want to eat with a view outside. So green and lovely..♥

"HEOD" (해옫) is said to be short for "the sun rises." It carries the wish that visitors feel a warm glow and spend a comfortable time here.

The mood is great and the interior is pretty, so I'd recommend it for a blind date, group gatherings or a date.

At popular mealtimes, walk-ins without a reservation may wait 40–50 minutes, so it's easier to book ahead through Naver.

HEOD Mapo menu: what can you order?

The HEOD Mapo menu ranges from French toast to pasta, gnocchi, salads and risotto. There are also coffees and ades, so it's easy to pick food and drinks together.
I especially noticed dishes that bring Korean ingredients into Western cooking, like pickled scallions, miso doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and aged kimchi. Other reviews said the portions are really big, so it suited us, a big-eating couple ^__^
- Chicken mashed potato 19.8 (₩19,800)
- Scallion pork jowl oil pasta 19.8 (₩19,800)
- Egg in hell 16.8 (₩16,800)
Naver has various coupons, including ones for a free orange juice, lettering plate, mini cake or iced Americano, so I recommend looking them up-!
How does HEOD Mapo's chicken mashed potato taste?

The chicken mashed potato (₩19,800) is garlic chives and chicken on top of a homemade butter potato sauce. I ordered it after seeing how good it looked in reviews, and no regrets.

The soft, nutty potato sauce is paired with chicken, and the point is to scoop up all three components in one spoonful. The garlic chives add a fragrant twist to the potato-and-butter flavor. It's a different kind of dish from bread or pasta, so it worked well alongside the rest of our brunch spread.
HEOD Mapo's egg in hell: how big is the portion?

HEOD Mapo's egg in hell (₩16,800) is eggs cooked in a tomato sauce with bell pepper and bacon, eaten with rye bread. The tomato's tang and the bacon's saltiness come together with the egg.

The portion is re-ally big, and since you pile the sauce and egg on rye bread, the bread becomes part of the meal too. If you're looking for brunch near Daeheung Station and want a bread-and-egg dish, it's a good candidate-!

It goes great with the crunchy cabbage pickles.
What does HEOD Mapo's scallion pork jowl oil pasta taste like?

The name alone sounded delicious: the scallion pork jowl oil pasta (₩19,800) is an oil pasta made with house-pickled scallions, tomato and pork jowl.

Its feature is the tangy pickled scallions alongside the rich pork jowl. Rather than eating just the noodles, picking up pork and scallions together shows off the combination better. On days you want an oil base instead of cream sauce, it's worth a look among Gongdeok pasta restaurant menus.
Three dishes for two: a brunch spread at HEOD Mapo

This spread at HEOD Mapo, chicken mashed potato, scallion pork jowl oil pasta and egg in hell, was great because potato sauce, oil pasta and tomato sauce all head in different flavor directions. It suits a friends' get-together at a Gongdeok brunch spot, or a date where you want to share different dishes.
If you're considering HEOD Mapo as brunch near Daeheung Station, check the Mapo branch notice before visiting for the reservation, walk-in and waiting guidance.
