Today I went with my family to "Hyeongnim Dakgui" in Daemyeong-dong, Daegu. Let me introduce it to you right away!

Address: 104 Myeongdeok-ro, Nam-gu, Daegu, South Korea
What kind of restaurant is Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch?

Here's the outside of the restaurant! The place is pretty big, so it caught my eye from far away. Even first-time visitors should be able to find it easily.

I heard the owner of Hyeongnim Dakgui donates a lot, and also runs a free lunch buffet for local elderly folks on weekends as a kind of volunteer service…! Wow… getting to eat delicious food and hear such a warm story at the same time made my heart feel all fuzzy 🤍 A place where you get good vibes along with good food.
Where to park: the large lot by Keimyung University's main gate
Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch is convenient because if you drive in through Keimyung University's main gate, there's a back door that connects straight to the restaurant. The parking lot was spacious, and they support 2 hours of free parking, so keep that in mind if you're driving.

If you head to the parking lot I marked with an arrow, you'll see this balloon right away haha
Rooms, main hall and playroom: where can groups sit?
The waiting area

The waiting area you see as soon as you walk in felt spacious and comfortable.
The private rooms
Hyeongnim Dakgui had a variety of room types! There are half-rooms that feel private without being too closed off, and fully enclosed private rooms with doors, so you can choose based on your preference. There are also folding doors between rooms, which looked great for connecting several rooms together when visiting as a group!
The main hall

This is the main hall! There's a big screen on one side, great for watching baseball or soccer games together. I was worried it might get hot since the hall is so big, but each section has its own circulator, so the AC reached every corner well!
The restrooms
The restrooms are separated for men and women. They were spacious with plenty of stalls, and kept very clean.
The kids' playroom
The scale is a bit small, but there's a kids' playroom too. For family group gatherings, having a space for kids to play means parents can enjoy their meal at ease.
Hyeongnim Dakgui menu and prices

Here's the menu at Hyeongnim Dakgui! We were planning to have grilled chicken and beef, but unfortunately beef wasn't available that day. If you want the beef menu, they say they'll prepare it if you contact them a day before your visit! Overall the menu prices were quite affordable.
- Grilled chicken (full tray) ₩43,000
- Grilled chicken (half tray) ₩27,000
- Pork ribs 180g ₩7,900
- Frozen pork belly 100g ₩5,900
They also run a ₩9,500 lunch buffet. It's cheap enough that it seems like a spot college students nearby would come to for lunch a lot.
The self-bar with more than 10 side dishes
We ordered a full tray of grilled chicken and three servings of pork ribs.

Only water and cutlery are set on the table — you bring your own side dishes from the self-bar!

From wrap vegetables to all sorts of side dishes, there were over 10 kinds prepared! There were several types of kimchi too, so you could eat plenty just from the side dishes alone. It honestly felt like there were more side dishes than at a Korean rice restaurant…? Next to the side dish zone there were also about 3 main-dish-style sides like braised tofu and seaweed soup, but I didn't manage to take a photo 🥲 too busy eating haha.
There's a salad zone too 🥗 Not only fresh vegetables but also as many as 4 kinds of salad dressing! Perfect for a refreshing bite between rounds of meat.

And here's the snack zone! 🍜🍳 You can cook your own ramyeon (instant noodles) here, and there are unlimited fried eggs too!
And finally, the dessert zone!! 🍦☕️ From ice cream to coffee, dessert is well stocked too! Filling up on meat and then getting to have dessert at the end… this is really something, right?! 🤍
Now that we've each grabbed side dishes to our taste, shall we get grilling?!
How does the grilled chicken taste, half salted and half seasoned?

We ordered half seasoned, half salt!

We decided to try the plain salt-grilled chicken first 🤍 Since it comes pre-cooked once, you just need to grill it briefly at the table so it's ready fast! Waiting for meat to cook when you're hungry is the hardest part, so being able to eat quickly thanks to the pre-cooking was great haha.

The spicy sauce isn't at the self-bar, the owner brought it separately. The salt-grilled chicken was clean and tasty on its own, but dipping it in the spicy sauce gave it a whole different charm!

Next up, the seasoned version!! The seasoning burns more easily than the salt version, so it's important to flip it often on the grill! My brother and dad worked hard flipping it for us 🤍 Thanks to them I got to just sit back and eat haha.
The seasoned grilled chicken was sweet with a hint of spice, kind of like eating grilled yangnyeom chicken! And there's mayo at the self-bar — you have to dip the seasoned chicken in mayo… 🤍 I kept stealing the mayo-plus-sesame-oil sauce my brother brought over haha.

This grilled green onion was surprisingly a highlight too. The nicely charred green onion had a subtle smoky, oniony aroma that was so good!
Three servings of pork ribs, finished with ramyeon
After the grilled chicken, we also had seasoned pork ribs.

Grilled to a nice golden brown.

The pork ribs tasted just like you'd expect! Sweet sauce, tender meat — familiar in the best way, which made it even tastier haha. Nothing groundbreaking, but a flavor anyone would enjoy.
Korean dessert has to be ramyeon…! We went to the self-bar and cooked up some ramyeon properly. One slight downside was that instead of packaged ramyeon, you add the soup base yourself, so it was hard to know exactly how much to put in. Still, finishing off the meat with a bowl of ramyeon left us super full.
While cooking my ramyeon, I glanced over and saw someone making their own rolled egg on the side lol. Self-bar skill level 10,000…!! Next time I'll try tackling the rolled egg too! 🤍

Is Hyeongnim Dakgui a good spot for family dinners and group nights out?
Hyeongnim Dakgui, with its spacious restaurant and big parking lot, was really great for a group dinner or family gathering! With everything from private rooms to half-rooms, it's also good for private use. The grilled chicken and pork ribs both tasted good, and the prices were reasonable too — really solid value. The side dishes were buffet-style and generous, so I think older family members especially would love it! Plus there's a baby playroom, so families with kids can eat comfortably too. Easy parking, spacious, tasty, and good value — if you're looking for a spot for a group gathering or family dinner, I recommend this Daemyeong-dong, Daegu restaurant, Hyeongnim Dakgui 🤍
