I'm on a diet these days, so when I pick a meal I look for something filling but not heavy. This time I got poke to go from Salering, a salad shop near Gyodae Station, and ate it at home. I assumed a salad place would mean small portions, but it was much more generous than I expected, and with all the toppings and fresh vegetables it felt like a proper lunch. If you're stuck on what to eat for lunch near Gyodae Station, Salering is worth a try.
Where is Salering Gyodae Direct Store, and what is the shop like inside?

Salering Gyodae Direct Store is close to Exit 1 of Gyodae Station. It sits in an area full of office workers, so it's a good lunchtime stop, and takeout was quick even at a busy hour. Inside, it's clean and decorated mainly in white and green. Fresh and bright, just what you'd expect from a salad shop, haha.

The seating is also roomier than I expected, with wide spacing, so it works well for a group at lunchtime. It didn't feel cramped or stuffy, just comfortable for a relaxed meal. That said, people usually take salads out or get them delivered, so I took mine home to eat.

Besides salads, Salering has poke, wraps, sandwiches, and soups. A highlight is that you choose the base of your poke yourself. The options are brown rice and barley, whole wheat pasta, veggie only, and egg strips (+₩1,000), so it's easy to order to suit your diet or taste.

It's called poke, but pick veggie only and it turns straight into a salad, right? For something hearty, go with brown rice and barley or whole wheat pasta; for something lighter, go veggie only and eat it like a salad.

The menu lists a dressing that pairs well with each item, which makes ordering easy for first-timers. The main toppings, like chicken breast, smoked duck, and shrimp and scallop, are varied too, so you can pick based on what you feel like that day. I ordered two, the pepper chicken breast bibim poke and the flame-grilled steak bibim poke, and switched both to veggie only for takeout.
What comes in a veggie-only Salering poke to go?
Pepper chicken breast bibim poke / Flame-grilled steak bibim poke

When I opened the takeout container, everything was packed neatly. Even though I chose veggie only, it came with egg strips as standard, plus quail eggs, crab sticks, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, garlic flakes, and plenty of other vegetables. Every vegetable and topping looked fresh, and just looking at it made me feel healthier.

Pepper chicken breast bibim poke: how does it taste?
In the pepper chicken breast bibim poke, the chicken is sliced thin, so it was easy to eat. It chewed soft, with none of that dry texture, and a gentle pepper seasoning came through. Chicken breast goes well with plain vegetables too, doesn't it, haha.

Each bite gave me chicken, assorted vegetables, quail egg or crab stick, and red cabbage all at once. The crunch and sharp kick of the garlic flakes kept it from getting boring.

Flame-grilled steak bibim poke: how does it taste?
In the flame-grilled steak bibim poke, the steak was cut into bite-size pieces, so it was easy to eat, and it wasn't too thick or tough. Salad with steak is just delicious.

Steak in a salad can sometimes be dry or tough, but Salering's steak poke had almost none of that. The tender flame-grilled beef went nicely with the vegetables.
Is a Salering poke bowl filling enough for lunch near Gyodae Station?
Salering's poke is a salad, but the portion is big and it keeps you full. People assume salad wears off quickly, but this didn't feel that way. For a woman, one bowl was a pretty full lunch, and I think it would be filling enough for a man too. It felt less like a light salad and more like a proper lunch.
I was happy with Salering this time: fresh vegetables, varied toppings, and generous portions. Choosing the base to your taste was nice, and the sauce suggested for each item helped on a first visit. If you're looking for a salad near Gyodae Station or a filling lunch in the area, it's worth a visit~
