Nonhyeon frozen pork belly restaurant, 1.5mm vs 3mm: Daepae Market

Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch is a 24-hour frozen pork belly restaurant near Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul, where the pork is hand-sliced to order. The self-serve bar costs 2,000 won per person with wrap greens, mushrooms, bracken fern, minari (water dropwort) and corn mayo, and this visit ordered 3 servings to compare the 1.5mm and 3mm cuts before finishing with fried rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). The crisp 1.5mm and the tender 3mm both offered strong value at Daepae Market, enough to bring on a return visit.

Yongsan tteokbokki spot with draft beer and fritters: Hyeonseonine

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) snack restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul, where the original tteokbokki comes with draft beer. Late at night after the Seoul Fireworks Festival, the Hyeonseonine Combo Set for three arrived generous: mild, not-sweet broth tteokbokki, crispy fritters and chewy kkoburi eomuk (curly fish cake) in anchovy broth. Gimbap was sold out and swapped for tuna rice balls, but Hyeonseonine still delivered.
