Mapo burger restaurant with fast service: Bored & Hungry

I finally took a break from my Korean-food streak and went out for burgers for the first time in a while. I’ve been absolutely obsessed with Korean food lately and eating nothing but that, then suddenly I was craving something more exotic—so after looking around, I ended up at Bored & Hungry Mapo (보어드앤헝그리 마포) 🙂🙂

Handmade burgers by Gyeongui Line Forest Park near Daehung Station

Bored & Hungry Mapo is about a three-minute walk from Exit 4 of Daehung Station. It’s right next to Gyeongui Line Forest Park, so it seems like a great spot to eat and then take a stroll along the park—or power-walk first and eat afterward.

Even though it was a weekday evening, there were quite a lot of customers. There were plenty of couples on dates, as well as quite a few people who had come to enjoy a burger solo 🙂

You can pick up anything you need from the self-service corner, and order using the QR code at your table.

Ordering the Shrimp Burger and Bacon Deluxe Double

Here’s the menu. Every item can be made into a combo, so in an effort to diet at least a little, we ordered one combo and one à la carte burger. I ordered the Shrimp Burger, and my husband got the Bacon Deluxe Double.

Burgers that arrived almost immediately

The burgers came out almost right away. A lot of handmade burger places take forever, so I really liked that Bored & Hungry Mapo brought ours out straight after we ordered.

Buttery buns and a thick shrimp patty

First, let me show you the shrimp burger I ordered 🍤 The very first bite told me that the bun was seriously delicious 🍔 It looked appetizing already, but once I tried it, the bun was much softer and moister than I expected, with such a rich buttery flavor. So good!!

What I loved most was the thickness of the shrimp patty! It wasn’t the kind with a thin patty—it felt really thick and substantial, so the shrimp made a definite impression with every bite 🍤🍤 It wasn’t made up only of finely ground shrimp, either. There were bits of shrimp throughout with a crisp, springy bite, and I enjoyed it so much.

The juicy, smoky Bacon Deluxe Double

I stole a bite of my husband’s Bacon Deluxe hamburger too. The patties weren’t overly thin or cooked dry—they were thick and full of juices, so the more I chewed, the more I could really taste that rich beef flavor. So good! The subtle smoky char and savory meatiness of the patties especially gave it that handmade-burger appeal that’s clearly different from a typical chain burger 🫶🏻🫶🏻

The patty itself was seasoned just right, letting the clean, savory flavor of the beef come through, while the fresh vegetables kept the richness in check. It was such a delicious meal. Every bite brought together crisp vegetables, a soft bun, and a juicy beef patty, and it was seriously satisfying~~

I finished with the irresistible fries, haha. They say burgers are actually a pretty balanced food, but apparently fries are why they make you gain weight, haha. But my fries are simply irresistible~

At this great Daehung Station spot, Bored & Hungry Mapo, the shrimp burger stood out for its plump, crisp-chewy shrimp patty, while the beef burger won me over with its thick, juicy beef patties 🦐🥩 Both were satisfying with their soft buttery buns and tasty sauces. The interior also feels quite exotic, and if you’re looking for a seriously American-style handmade burger place, I highly recommend it! I would absolutely come back.
