Boryeong fish shop: cuttlefish and sea squirt with kids, Nokdo Susan

In short

Nokdo Susan (녹도수산) is a live fish and seasonal seafood shop near the entrance of the Daecheon Port fish market in Boryeong, Chungnam. After a late lunch of grilled clams, the writer picked up flounder sashimi, golden cuttlefish sashimi and sea squirt from Nokdo Susan and ate them on a mat at Daecheon Beach with the kids. The cuttlefish sashimi was sweet and springy and the flounder firm and chewy, the best sashimi the writer had eaten in a while.

Where can you buy sashimi late at Daecheon Port fish market?

Nokdo Susan is a popular shop that stays open the latest in Daecheon Port fish market, so it's great for picking up sashimi in the evening after playing at the sea. It was busy, so the fish was fresh and turned over quickly~

The weather is so good for Daecheon right now, are you all heading there~? You'll probably eat clams, squid sashimi and other raw fish. We had grilled clams for a late lunch, then planned to play at the sea and get sashimi to eat there! It was cool out, so it was perfect for eating by the water.

Nokdo Susan location and how to use it

Nokdo Susan sits big in the first section as you enter Daecheon Port, so you can't miss it, and it's open from morning to night. As a popular spot, it was really crowded.

Many people took their sashimi to their lodging, ate by the sea, or ate in the restaurant right upstairs. If you want to eat upstairs, buy your sashimi at Nokdo Susan, then pay a table setting fee and dine there.

Seasonal seafood at Nokdo Susan: cuttlefish and blue crab

Nokdo Susan had a wide range, from whole fish and sashimi to holiday gift sets, semi-dried fish and other seafood. Besides cuttlefish, which is in season now, it's also blue crab season with the crabs full of roe. If you like crab, ask them to steam it; they said it takes about 25 minutes, so give it a try!

We didn't have the time, so we chose flounder and cuttlefish sashimi, but I already want to go back soon for the crab.

Parking and service at Nokdo Susan, Daecheon Port

Parking at Nokdo Susan is free, so you can park easily and then pick what you want. The kind woman there let us shop without any pressure, and the whole time we waited she kept saying, "Just a little longer~" and looked after us so nicely. I really liked that.

How was the cuttlefish sashimi at Nokdo Susan?

The cuttlefish sashimi at Nokdo Susan was soft, sweet and springy, melting in your mouth, just amazing. Blue crab full of roe that you can only get right now! And cuttlefish! I really enjoyed the cuttlefish sashimi.

What we did while the sashimi was being cut

What we picked at Nokdo Susan that day: flounder, cuttlefish sashimi, and sea squirt (meongge)! While waiting for the sashimi to be cut, we also grabbed a few groceries at the small mart in front of Daecheon Port. You can buy everything in one go, which is super convenient!

Fresh cuttlefish and flounder~ they're about to come out as tasty sashimi. Wow, it's really fresh and run cleanly. Nokdo Susan lets you eat in, and offers takeout and even delivery. You just wait a bit while they prepare it. It was close to the parking lot, which was great, and the restrooms are nearby too.

Lots of people were buying fresh scallops too~ Grilled at your lodging or campsite they're honestly heavenly! Next time I'll try that at a campsite! Everything here is good, so note it down, note it down: at Daecheon Port, it's Nokdo Susan, no question!

Flounder and cuttlefish sashimi on Daecheon Beach

Daecheon Beach is just 10 minutes from Nokdo Susan, so you can eat at your lodging, or lay out a mat and eat on the beach like we did. Wow, honestly the best sashimi I've had lately, top of the top! It's been a long time since I tasted sashimi this sweet.

The cuttlefish was sweet, no need to even say it, and the flounder was freshly cut and so chewy, springy and sweet, texture and taste both a huge hit.

Did the kids eat well too?

Our elementary school kids ate the Nokdo Susan sashimi well too. Maybe they were hungry from playing at the sea, because they took it right in~ and the adults had a drink.

Eating sashimi in front of the sea, listening to the waves, is the best~

Take your trash with you after eating on the beach

After a good meal, please take your trash home and sort it for recycling. For the environment! For the Earth we live on! There was a lot of trash in the sea, which made me sad :(

Run over to Nokdo Susan at Daecheon Port fish market this weekend for cuttlefish and blue crab.
