Dinner in Jongno 3-ga after signing for our wedding rings
After signing our wedding ring contract in Jongno 3-ga, I had a pork belly set for dinner at Simin Sikdang Main Branch (시민식당 본점). We'd ordered the rings last weekend 💍 Outback in Dongdaemun at 12, a play in Hyehwa at 3, then the ring contract in Jongno 3-ga.. the schedule was packed.. Even after that Outback lunch, I was hungry again once the contract was done, lol.
Looking for indoor Korean BBQ in Jongno 3-ga, not street-side tables?
Jongno 3-ga has a ton of street-side (yajang) BBQ spots, but I was looking for somewhere indoors with air-con, so I went to Simin Sikdang Main Branch. Outdoor tables are chaotic and hot, so not for me.
Simin Sikdang location and parking
Simin Sikdang Main Branch is right near Exit 1 of Jongno 3-ga Station. It's close to where we signed for the rings, so the route was easy. There's no parking. I was on foot so it didn't matter, but if you're driving, know this ahead of time!
Inside Simin Sikdang
The air-con was on and it was cool inside ^_^ Perfect for me, since I wanted indoors instead of a street table 😆 Customers kept coming in, from older folks to young people. That feels like a real local favorite for BBQ in Jongno 3-ga!
The 1st floor is big and so is the 2nd, so it looked fine for company dinners or group gatherings too.
Simin Sikdang set menus and prices
I chose the Simin half pork belly set (시민반판삼겹세트, ₩75,000). The set menus are well put together, and I also considered the Asamyuk set (아삼육세트, ₩69,000), but I'm not a big jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) fan, so I skipped it. The Simin half pork belly set serves 2–3 people and comes with 450g of 29cm pork belly, three kinds of kimchi, wagyu gujeolpan cheese fried rice, and kimchi stew.
And because of the Handon Day promotion running until October 18, it was ₩66,000! I ordered without noticing the discount, and the owner pointed it out first 😳 Total win.. what a bargain..
The set's kimchi stew and side dishes
The kimchi stew that comes with the set was generous too. It's packed with tofu, rice cakes, enoki mushrooms and meat 🍲 This is not one of those tiny complimentary kimchi stews, lol.
Clean side dishes, and the sweet pumpkin salad was great.
Does Simin Sikdang grill the meat for you?
Yes, and the best part of Simin Sikdang was the owner grilling for us! He's kind and funny. He put the three kinds of kimchi and bean sprouts on the grill first, then added green onion, onion, garlic, mushrooms and the meat all at once.
He came back midway to grill and cut the meat again. He cut up all the kimchi too, so I basically just ate, haha.
Funnily enough, I had the Ryan face and my boyfriend had the Tube face. Only one of us was eating, that's for sure~ A day out in Seoul on foot, so I'm eating it up~
It's a Jongno 3-ga BBQ place and the owner grills everything so well that all I had to do was eat, so comfy ㅠ How does he cut the pieces to just the right size, lol.
I really love grilled kimchi, and there are three kinds: white kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi and gat (mustard leaf) kimchi!! That's meant for me to eat happily, right?? >_<~
Unlimited ssam vegetables
The ssam (wrap) vegetables at Simin Sikdang come in many kinds and are unlimited refills. That day I wrapped to my heart's content 🥬
I tucked in kimchi and veggies and munched away. My boyfriend wrapped way more skillfully than me.
How do you eat the wagyu cheese fried rice?
The wagyu gujeolpan cheese fried rice (와규구절판치즈볶음밥) is a do-it-yourself fried rice included in the set, and I asked for it when the meat was almost gone. It comes with wagyu, cheese, kimchi, three kinds of vegetables, seaweed, sesame oil and rice.
You fry it yourself. I put the ingredients on the grill, and my boyfriend did the hard work of frying 👏 He stir-fried everything so diligently! It felt like craftsman spirit.. hahahaha
Add the cheese, sprinkle on the seaweed flakes, and done~ So delicious..>_< And the fun of scraping up the slightly crispy rice..! That's what makes it good..!

Looking for indoor rather than street-side BBQ in Jongno 3-ga? I'd say Simin Sikdang Main Branch.🥓 The owner grilled everything so I just ate, lol. Just keep in mind there's no parking!
