Yeonnam-dong burgers: extra-lettuce DumbBurger at Deombeogeo Bonjeom

Craving a good handmade burger in Yeonnam-dong, I headed straight to Deombeogeo Bonjeom (덤버거 본점).

Deombeogeo Bonjeom is a handmade burger place on the 2nd floor of 244-1 Dongyo-ro in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. First, here's the exterior.

Yeonnam-dong has so many good restaurants that picking a meal here is always fun, but this time I wanted something simple yet properly filling, so I decided on a handmade burger.

What to order at Deombeogeo Bonjeom

This time I ordered a chicken cheeseburger, a DumbBurger, and 2 DUMB hash browns as a side.

For the DumbBurger in particular, I added lettuce to make it a bit more filling.

How does the Deombeogeo Bonjeom chicken cheeseburger taste?

The chicken cheeseburger at Deombeogeo Bonjeom had a crispy chicken patty topped with cheese for a savory, salty burger. Even in photos the size looked pretty appetizing, and with plenty of patty and vegetables packed in, it seemed like a proper meal on its own.

First up was the chicken cheeseburger! As you can see in the photo, a plump chicken patty was packed tightly between the buns, and it looked filling just to look at. The crispy fried chicken patty combined with the cheese for a savory, salty flavor, and eating it with the soft burger bun made a great combination.

What I especially loved was how the crispy chicken patty played off the moist bun. Taking a big bite, the chicken and cheese hit first, then the vegetables and sauce followed, and the overall flavor came together naturally. I think anyone who likes chicken burgers could enjoy this one without any hesitation.

Is the DumbBurger better with extra lettuce?

The second thing I ordered at Deombeogeo Bonjeom was the DumbBurger. Adding lettuce gave it a crisp texture that freshened up the heaviness of the meat patty.

We had lettuce added to this one. Burgers really do get a richer texture with plenty of vegetables. The crisp crunch of the lettuce alongside the patty seemed to lighten up the heavier flavor of the meat a bit.

Looking at the photo, the patty and lettuce were packed generously between the buns, so it looked great visually too. On the first bite, the soft texture of the bun, the flavor of the patty, and the crunchy lettuce all came through together, making it a satisfying meal.

Handmade burgers are especially fun when you take a big bite and feel all the ingredients come together in harmony. This time too, rather than cutting the burger in half, I took big bites and could really taste how all the ingredients blended together.

Are the DUMB hash browns worth adding as a side?

Since burgers alone felt like it might be a little lacking, I added 2 DUMB hash browns as a side. In the photo, the hash browns were fried to a golden brown, and the visual alone promised a crispy texture. Pairing bites of hash brown in between bites of burger added a crispy, savory element that worked really well together.

Switching from the soft bun and moist patty to a crispy bite of hash brown really changed up the texture, and I kept reaching for more. Ordering a side alongside the burger makes the meal feel much more substantial, so if you like sides with your handmade burger, I'd recommend adding the hash browns too.

After trying it in person, I think Deombeogeo Bonjeom is a great spot to visit whenever you're craving a burger in Yeonnam-dong. Yeonnam-dong has plenty of places for cafés and desserts, but also plenty of proper meal options, and among them handmade burgers seem especially versatile — great for a quick bite or a hearty meal. It's nice to visit with a friend and each order your own burger, or, like we did, order different burgers and share them — that was fun too.

The chicken cheeseburger suits anyone who loves the combo of chicken and cheese, and the DumbBurger felt more substantial with the added lettuce. Adding the DUMB hash browns on top made for a really well-rounded menu.

Is Deombeogeo Bonjeom good for a Yeonnam-dong date or eating alone?

The burgers at Deombeogeo Bonjeom are hearty enough that I'd say it's a solid choice when you're looking for a Yeonnam-dong date restaurant. It also works well if you want a meal before heading to a café in Yeonnam-dong, or a filling bite while strolling along Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Burgers are also relatively easy to eat alone, so it could be a good option for those looking for solo dining spots in Yeonnam-dong.

It's especially worth visiting if you love burgers but want something a bit different from the usual franchise burger chains.

This time at Deombeogeo Bonjeom, I enjoyed a chicken cheeseburger + DumbBurger (with extra lettuce) + 2 DUMB hash browns.

The chicken cheeseburger had a great balance of crispy chicken patty and savory cheese, and the DumbBurger got even richer with the added crunch of lettuce. With the golden-fried hash browns alongside, it made for a truly satisfying meal.
