Why I got a root touch-up and a cut at a Hongdae hair salon

I got two things done at U Art Hair Hongdae (79 Wausan-ro 27-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 3rd floor): a root touch-up and a cut. It's been so hot lately, and my roots had grown out a lot, so I wanted to thin out my hair a bit and redo my roots, and I headed to U Art Hair Hongdae near Hongik Univ. Station. Hours are daily 09:30–20:00, and weekends 10:00–20:00!

My last dye job was about two or three months ago, so the roots had grown out quite a bit. I was worried the difference from my original color would be obvious, but it blended in so naturally afterward that I was really happy. It honestly felt like I'd dyed my whole head again~ There was no visible line at all between the new color and the old, and the stylist worked fast, so the whole thing went quickly, which I loved. After the treatment she also applied plenty of hair essence, so my hair came out silky smooth as a bonus. haha

How much are root dye and a cut at U Art Hair Hongdae?

I got two services at U Art Hair Hongdae: a root touch-up for ₩70,000 and a women's design cut for ₩33,000. For accurate prices, check Naver or ask in a consultation when you visit. Some services add a charge for hair length, so it's best to talk it through with the head stylist before you start!

Personally, I thought it was reasonable for the quality. I had root dye and a cut together and the total wasn't a burden at all. If anything, I thought it was a perfectly good price for what I got.

Where U Art Hair Hongdae is and how to get there

U Art Hair Hongdae is near Hongik Univ. Station, so it's really easy to reach. It's convenient by public transport, and since this is Hongdae, there are lots of cafés, restaurants and shops around, which makes it easy to kill some time before or after your appointment!

Salon atmosphere and the consultation before the service

The salon feels cozy and clean. It isn't big, with only about 5–6 seats, but that made it feel more private, which I liked. The lighting is bright yet nicely set up, and the music was recent new releases with some J-pop mixed in, so I never got bored during the treatment haha

Before doing the root dye and the cut, the stylist asked me detailed questions. I asked her to match my tone as closely as possible, and I requested a layered cut for my style!

2–3cm of regrowth: was there a line left after the root dye?

Before the service my roots had grown out about 2–3cm, and after the root dye at U Art Hair Hongdae the line disappeared naturally. I was honestly a little worried because the regrowth was pretty long. I kept thinking, what if it's obviously different from my original color? But after washing and drying my hair, it blended in so well!

During the service, the stylist pointed out that my hair color has a bit of a reddish tint. I hadn't known that, so I asked, and she kindly explained how to get rid of it, which eased my worry about how to even out my hair color later on.

Thick hair made lighter with a layered cut

After the root dye came the women's design cut. She didn't just cut whatever I asked for; she first looked at my face shape and hair condition and helped figure out what would suit me better! I stuck with the layered style I already had haha.. I'd kept layers before too, but this time she thinned it out a bit more so it's lighter and easier to manage. (I'm one of those people with very thick, heavy hair.)

Service that was comfortable even for an introvert

The head stylist and staff at U Art Hair Hongdae were so easygoing with me. I'm very introverted, so going to a hair salon usually makes me a little nervous, but the moment I sat down I relaxed! They looked after me without being overbearing, so I felt comfortable throughout.

I really love this cut, so I'll probably come back next time when I've grown my hair out a bit and it's time for another root touch-up.

Is U Art Hair Hongdae worth going back to?

The head stylist who worked on me was kind and fast, which made the root dye and cut even more satisfying :) She also gave me a Mentos at the end, so I got a sugar boost on the way home! Access to U Art Hair Hongdae is great too, so I sincerely recommend it to anyone near Hongdae thinking about getting their hair dyed or cut!
