The writer stopped by Gipeun Sup for a second round of drinks, shared a bottle of Callaway Chardonnay with the complimentary pretzels, and got a large brownie free for writing a Naver review. With good-value bottles of wine for two to share, Gipeun Sup is an easy pick for a second round or a date in Hapjeong.

Hapjeong bar for 5pm Friday yukhoe and seafood ramyeon: Bako Jumak

Bako Jumak (바코주막) is a Korean pub on Dongmak-ro 7-gil in Mapo, Seoul, near Hapjeong Station, specializing in Korean beef yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) and beef sashimi. Arriving at 5pm straight after work on a Friday, the writer started with draft beer and Jinro soju, wrapped the yukhoe with gamtae seaweed, water dropwort and Cheongyang green chili, then added a spicy seafood ramyeon. Bako Jumak is the Hapjeong bar to remember when you want a quiet early drink before the crowds arrive.
