Konkuk Univ. café: crème brûlée latte & financiers at Café Ohkam

In short

After dinner with a friend near Konkuk Univ., the writer ordered a fresh plum ade, an iced crème brûlée latte, a choco chip financier and a plain financier, and the big chocolate chips and the crème brûlée latte you crack with a spoon stood out most. Café Ohkam is a dessert café on Dongil-ro 22-gil near Konkuk Univ. Station, open daily from 12:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:30). After a tasty dinner near Konkuk Univ. with a friend, I headed here for dessert, because it's such a vibey café.

What did we order at Café Ohkam?

We ordered a fresh plum ade, a crème brûlée latte and financiers (small French almond cakes). Besides coffee, this Konkuk Univ. dessert café sells lots of other desserts, and I was curious about them all, but I held back for my diet.

Fresh mango bingsu from the kitchen at Café Ohkam

I didn't order the fresh mango bingsu (shaved milk ice dessert), but I watched the kitchen carefully top milk ice with fresh mango, piece by piece. Café Ohkam is clearly a bingsu place. The mango was a properly ripened, deep yellow, and the milk ice was snow-white with a fine texture. I wished I'd ordered it! The bingsu can also be taken away.

Is there a cat at Café Ohkam?

Yes, there is a cat at Café Ohkam. After we finished ordering I turned around and there it was! It climbed up on a chair to look out the window, paying no attention to the customers, and you could tell it was totally at home in the café.

Seating at Café Ohkam: attic seats and a rooftop

Every seating area has a different mood, so "vibey café" fits. One area has an attic feel, and it looked comfortable for chatting quietly.

There's also a rooftop, and I think sitting up there in spring or autumn, with a cool breeze, would feel amazing!! The parasols give it a slightly beachside atmosphere, which I loved.

How did the drinks and financiers look at Café Ohkam?

We got a plum ade and an iced crème brûlée latte. Our drinks finally arrived, and the colors are so varied and cute, right? Both glasses were pretty too, so they were great for photos. The choco chip financier and plain financier were pretty as well, and the plate was just as vibey.

The ade was a completely peachy color. When I stirred it with the straw and drank, I could chew the fresh plum pulp. It was refreshing, with a real early-summer taste.

Crème brûlée latte at Café Ohkam: the fun of cracking it

The crème brûlée latte had a thin layer of cream and sugar on top of a real latte. So you tap it with a spoon and crack it, just like real crème brûlée, which is the fun part. And the cream wasn't overly rich or sweet, just pleasantly delicious, sweet fresh cream.

Choco chip financier and plain financier at Café Ohkam

The stars of this Konkuk Univ. dessert café: a financier with big chocolate chips and a long plain financier. They came on a lovely plate, so I was excited.

The financier, generous with chocolate chips, was nutty with almond aroma, and the chips were chunky, so it was satisfying to eat.

Seriously, what chocolate chips do they use? I'd never seen chips this big until Café Ohkam in Konkuk Univ.
