Jongno 3-ga bakery hidden cheese loaf and injeolmi bread: Munhwa
In short
Munhwa Bakery is a bakery with a tiled-roof front in Jongno, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station and a fixed stop on the Ikseon-dong bread trail. On this visit the picks were a cheese-filled loaf bought for the first time, injeolmi bread (rice cake bread) stuffed with cream, red bean and rice cake, plus the usual onion bagel and garlic bread, all shared sitting by the Cheonggyecheon stream. Munhwa Bakery fills its bread generously, so it is the bakery to recommend if you are heading to Jongno.

It's such a popular bakery that there are always a lot of people around, but since the inside is pretty small everyone buys quickly and heads out, so there's no real waiting! This is an absolute must-stop on any bread pilgrimage 💛

Munhwa Bakery only sells bread baked that day, and any bread that doesn't sell is reportedly given to those in need!! Selling only same-day bread is already great, but giving away the leftovers for free too makes me feel like this is a place putting genuine heart into their bread. Amazing 👍

That always-exciting word, '빵 (bread)'. The hanok-style exterior here is so pretty from outside too!! Every time I pass by there are so many foreign visitors. I think this is a bakery that really captures the Korean touch well.
What bread does Munhwa Bakery sell? The onion bagel is the top pick

There aren't that many varieties, about 10, but each one has its own character and they're all delicious!! My absolute top pick is the onion bagel — pop it in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes to warm it up and it gets way crispier and tastier. That's my little tip, try running it through the air fryer once!! It's even better that way. It's the kind of taste that lingers with you ㅠ
I also really liked the mugwort rice cake bread with a bit of chewy rice cake inside, and the injeolmi (sweet rice cake) bread too~! The chewiness is so good.
- ✔️Milk cream bread
- ✔️Black sesame bread
It was packed with cream so it was delicious as a cream bread. If you like cream bread, I recommend it.

The cheese-filled loaf, bought for the first time
This time I bought the loaf bread for the first time, and it was genuinely delicious! There was an insane amount of cheese hidden inside ^..^

This is my all-time favorite bread! I think I end up buying it every single time I come 💛 That combination of crispy texture with cream cheese and onion is the best.

Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread is sweeter than expected
The garlic bread is really popular too!! There was so much garlic sauce spread on it that the garlic flavor really came through! But it was too sweet for me ㅠ so if you're not a fan of sweet bread, maybe skip this one!!

Eating the bread by the Cheonggyecheon stream
We bought the bread and shared it all together by the Cheonggyecheon stream. We sat down there to enjoy a bit of a picnic vibe (?) and ate happily haha. Isn't that the perfect route?

Look inside~ that much cheese packed in like this!! It's seriously so good! A flavor you'll never get tired of. If you like cheese loaf, this is the place haha.

Butter and garlic bread sauce are spread on together, and while it's a bit sweet, it was still delicious!!

Injeolmi bread with cream, red bean and rice cake, a hit with my niece
This is the injeolmi (sweet rice cake) bread, and inside it's a combination of cream + red bean + rice cake haha. I thought there'd just be a little bit of rice cake inside since it's injeolmi bread, but I had no idea it would be hidden in there like this — it was so good. My elementary schooler niece absolutely loved it too. I guess it's a flavor kids love too 💛
I've visited Munhwa Bakery many times now, and it always feels like a place that fills the inside of their bread generously without holding back. I've never had a bad bite here, so I really want to recommend it. It's truly a flavor you won't regret, so if you're heading to Jongno, make sure to visit this bakery as your representative stop on the bread pilgrimage.
