Yeonnam-dong café weekend wait & 3-step coffee aroma: Central Site

In short

Central Site Yeonnam is a café in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, near Hongik Univ. Station, specializing in tiramisu and specialty filter coffee. The writer visited Central Site Yeonnam once on a weekday night and once on a weekend afternoon to compare the waits. The writer also tried the café's three-stage aroma routine for filter coffee (ground beans, during brewing, finished cup) and the ₩8,500 classic tiramisu. Verdict: Central Site Yeonnam's filter coffee experience and not-too-sweet tiramisu are worth the weekend wait.

The root of tiramisu, Yeonnam-dong café Central Site ☕️ Even with so many cafés in Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong, this is a place that makes people line up, and I was really curious why. I first knew Central Site for its tiramisu, but after visiting I was won over by the way you experience the filter coffee. Here's my story of Central Site Yeonnam, visited once on a weekday night and once on a weekend afternoon!

Central Site Yeonnam: location, hours and parking

Central Site Yeonnam is a café specializing in tiramisu, specialty brewed coffee and filter coffee, on Yeonhui-ro in Mapo, Seoul. It uses an entire three-story building and opens early, at 8:00 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends and holidays, so it's handy when you're looking for morning coffee in Yeonnam-dong.

Central Site Yeonnam has no dedicated parking lot, so I recommend public transport. If you come by car you'll need a nearby private lot, but parking in Yeonnam-dong is hard on weekends anyway, so walking from Hongik Univ. Station is probably the easiest.

Central Site Yeonnam weekend wait: how different from a weekday?

Even on a weekday evening, the 2nd and 3rd floors were almost full, and on a weekend afternoon there was a wait. On the weekday evening I thought, "Wow, it's popular even on a weekday?", but on the weekend afternoon the weekday was nothing. People kept streaming in, and in the end a wait formed.

It isn't a waitlist system; the vibe is you have to spot a free seat and grab it. Since it's famous for tiramisu and filter coffee, if you go on a weekend, expect a wait during the busy hours.

Central Site Yeonnam: the mood on each floor

Each floor from 1 to 3 has a slightly different mood. The 1st floor has the order area and the coffee bar, so you can watch the filter coffee being brewed up close. One side of the space is filled with bar seating, which is a good spot for one or two people.

How is it as a laptop café in Yeonnam-dong?

The seats most popular with laptop workers at Central Site Yeonnam are the 2nd-floor window seats. There was no outlet there, but you can open the folding doors and feel the sunshine and fresh air, which is probably why they're so popular. That said, as I mentioned above, there aren't many seats and weekends come with a wait, so unless it's a quiet weekday hour, I think weekends suit visiting to enjoy the café itself rather than to work.

A bean lineup that keeps changing

The filter coffee at Central Site Yeonnam is made from specialty beans that differ in origin, farm, variety and processing, and the lineup isn't fixed; it keeps changing. Even if you found Central Site through its tiramisu, do take a look at the filter coffee lineup. It's not just a choice among two or three beans.

On one side of the shop, specialty cold brew is also served in a take-away format. If you like pouring yours over a glass of ice, this looks good too.

  • Classic tiramisu ₩8,500

  • Lotus tiramisu ₩9,000

On the weekday evening there was no banana pudding, but when I came early on the weekend there was banana pudding too. It must be popular!

Central Site Yeonnam brings your order to your seat, and returning the tray is self-service. The stairs are rather steep, which is probably why they bring it up to you! Looking at what other people ordered, a cake is a must.

How to enjoy filter coffee at Central Site: three sniffs

When you order filter coffee at Central Site Yeonnam, you get to smell the beans three times at the 1st-floor bar. After I ordered filter coffee, they asked me to wait at the bar for a moment. It was all so I could experience this bean's aroma three times.

  • 1. Sniffing the ground coffee right after grinding: smelling from the stage before the coffee is made, comparing, naturally sharpened my sense of smell. It was my first time enjoying the aroma of ground coffee like this.
  • 2. Sniffing the beans wet with water as it brews through the filter: when the ground beans meet water the aroma bursts up again, and it feels different from the dry grounds. Even more fun if you know coffee well.
  • 3. The moment you smell the finished coffee: ahhhh, amazing

These three steps are the reason Central Site will be remembered as a café where you can really experience filter coffee.

Nigusse Gemeda Baturo 74158 Dark Room vs Guatemala Entre Volcanes

The Ethiopia Nigusse Gemeda Baturo 74158 Dark Room feels bright and lovely right from the aroma. Drinking it too, it's the type for floral, refreshing flavors rather than ordinary nutty, heavy coffee.

The Guatemala Entre Volcanes 2026 Washed is built on hazelnut, butterscotch and milk chocolate, so I recommend it if you want a heavier body than the Ethiopian bean. They drop in a big ice cube, so it also felt a bit like drinking whiskey.

Central Site classic tiramisu

Is Central Site's classic tiramisu very sweet?

Central Site's classic tiramisu (₩8,500) wasn't as sweet as I expected, and the coffee-soaked sheets were impressive. It's topped with cocoa powder and finely grated dark chocolate, with cream and coffee-soaked sheets stacked in layers.

Classic tiramisu with layers of coffee-soaked sheets

Unlike what I imagined, it wasn't super sweet, which I loved, and while it's very soft, the coffee-soaked cake is a work of art!! The taste and look made it clear why it's talked about as a top tiramisu spot in Yeonnam-dong.

Central Site vanilla bean latte

Vanilla bean latte and cold brew Mont Blanc

Central Site's vanilla bean latte (₩6,000) is made with muscovado sugar and vanilla bean; the combination of sweet vanilla aroma, espresso and milk is familiar, so it was sweet and comfortable to enjoy.

Central Site cold brew Mont Blanc topped with cream

The cold brew Mont Blanc (₩8,000) reminds you of an Einspänner (coffee topped with cream), so I recommend it if you like sweet, smooth, cream-style coffee.

Who Central Site Yeonnam is for

  • Anyone looking for a top tiramisu café in Yeonnam-dong
  • Anyone who wants to really experience specialty filter coffee
  • Anyone looking for a café with a nice mood near Hongik Univ. and Yeonnam-dong

If you can't put up with the wait, go on a weekday, and even if weekends are your only option, going early or late should let you enjoy the café a bit more comfortably. You can also collect membership points if you sign up, so keep that in mind. Central Site was delicious, with great filter coffee and tiramisu.
