Rainy-day pasta for two in Yeonnam-dong, Seoul: Hôtel de Couture

Every alley in Yeonnam-dong has its own cute, trendy vibe, so hunting down good restaurants there is always fun. Today I visited Hôtel de Couture, a Yeonnam-dong pasta and Western food spot that's gotten popular for feeling like a trip to a French restaurant. Let me introduce it right away~

This is the exterior of Hôtel de Couture, a Yeonnam-dong pasta and Western food spot. The place is small so it might not be easy to spot — keep in mind it's on the 1.5th floor, and you'll see the Hôtel de Couture lettering in the window.

It was raining that day, so there was an umbrella stand right by the door. There's also a chalkboard in front of the store letting you know you've found Hôtel de Couture haha.

Inside Hôtel de Couture: is it a good Yeonnam-dong date spot?

This is the interior of Hôtel de Couture, the Yeonnam-dong pasta restaurant. Walk in and you'll see a cozy interior that feels like stepping into a French vintage home~

The soft antique interior could feel a bit stuffy, but thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, it doesn't feel cramped at all~ Even though the space is small, the tables are spaced generously apart, which is nice. Honestly, this restaurant is perfect for a Hongdae/Yeonnam-dong date course!

The tables come set with basic tableware, wet wipes, and tissues.

Since it's in the Hongdae area, plenty of foreign tourists must visit, right? There's an English menu ready along with a variety of drinks.

We debated what to eat and ended up ordering the signature carrot duck aglio olio and the pea basil shrimp cream pasta!

Both dishes look healthy just looking at them~

Pea basil shrimp cream pasta, 19,000 won

Let me start with the pea basil shrimp cream pasta. Haha, that vivid green basil color really catches your eye~

The basil pesto added to what could've been a heavy cream sauce kept it from feeling too rich, which I really liked. And there were plump, meaty shrimp inside, so the texture was great too, haha.

Carrot duck aglio olio: carrot cut like pasta

The carrot duck aglio olio exceeded my expectations. Combined with carrot, grated cheese powder, and parsley powder, it didn't taste like an ordinary aglio olio at all.

The duck meat comes in big, generous chunks too. It was nicely browned, so the texture and flavor were both great — I was surprised how well it paired with the aglio olio.

They really sliced the carrot thin and long like pasta noodles — eating it together with the actual noodles was such a fun surprise and delicious too, haha. Instead of the limp texture you get from carrots soaked in oil, it stayed crunchy while still having that noodle-like length, which made it feel really unique.

When things got a bit much, we'd have some pickles in between~

And with a Coke on the side, it was the complete package. It cut through the spiciness of the oil pasta and the richness of the basil cream, so it went down so easily ><
