Sorori Sotbap Gagyeong Direct Branch is a Korean restaurant serving sotbap (rice cooked in an individual pot) and buckwheat gimbap (seaweed rice roll), in the basement of Seohyeon Plaza in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju. A regular of the Seongan-gil main branch chose the Gagyeong Direct Branch for its easy parking when family visited Cheongju, ordered hairtail pot rice and cockle pot rice, and was disappointed that the mackerel pot rice had sold out. For a mild, light Korean meal with older relatives, Sorori Sotbap Gagyeong Direct Branch is a safe choice.

Julseoneun Banjeom Gangnae (줄서는반점 강내본점) is a Chinese restaurant in Gangnae-myeon, Cheongju, near Chungcheong University, best known for kkansho fried rice (fried rice with a sweet-and-spicy chili sauce), limited to 30 bowls a day, and stir-fried cream jjamppong. Gukje Yangyukgwan (국제양육관) is a charcoal-grilled lamb skewer and lamb rib restaurant near Jiwell City in Bokdae-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju. On an anniversary dinner for two, the writer ordered 10 lamb skewers for 16,000 won in two flavors, half and half, plus guobaorou (sweet and sour pork). The skewers had no gamey smell and were crisp outside and juicy inside, and a balsamic drizzle gave the guobaorou a distinctly tangy flavor. Gukje Yangyukgwan is a safe choice for lamb skewer first-timers, anniversary dates and group dinners alike.
