Teppan spot in Mullae: after-work scallion okonomiyaki and beer at
In short
Jojo Mullae Branch (죠죠 문래점) is a Japanese teppan (iron griddle) restaurant on Dorim-ro 139-gil in Mullae-dong, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. After work at around 7pm, the wait was only about 5 minutes. The order was the monjayaki set for two (mentaiko monjayaki, karai yakisoba with extra shrimp and waterfall potato), the signature okonomiyaki with an added scallion topping, and Hanmac draft beer. Because staff cook every griddle dish and even the indoor restrooms are clean, Jojo Mullae Branch was a satisfying spot for a date or a get-together with friends.

How long is the wait at Jojo Mullae Branch at 7pm on a weekday?
When I got to Jojo around 7pm after work on a weekday, the front of the restaurant was already packed, but a party happened to leave and I only waited about 5 minutes before going in. I'd rushed over straight from work, and of course, being a Mullae hotspot, the entrance was a sea of people...!
Just as I was about to despair — 'ah, today is definitely going to be a long wait' — a party finished eating and walked out at the perfect moment! 🥹 While the table was being cleared, I stood outside for about 5 minutes studying the menu, happily waiting, and then walked right in. (Total lucky-vicky moment 🍀)

Inside Jojo Mullae Branch: atmosphere and open kitchen
The interior of Jojo looks like a teppan restaurant lifted straight out of Japan, with soft lighting that makes it a cozy place for a drink. The decor is stylish and tasteful, and the gentle lighting was just right ෆᶿ̴͈᷇◡ᶿ̴͈᷆ෆ
A big open kitchen sits in the middle of the restaurant, so it was a treat to watch the cooks flamboyantly prepare our food in real time. And you can feel totally safe about hygiene too!!

How ordering works at Jojo Mullae Branch, and the nickname flag
At Jojo you order on the tablet at each table, and if you need anything you press the 'call staff' button. No need to shout across the room, which I appreciated (͒ ⋆˙꒳˙ )͒σ
And here's Jojo's fun little trick! After you order, a staff member hands you a small card. Write the nickname you want on it, and they stick it into your monjayaki like a flag when it's served! It's a small thing, but a clever touch that's perfect for an Instagram story (๑´ ̫ ´๑)

What we ordered at Jojo Mullae Branch
At Jojo we ordered the monjayaki set for two (monjayaki is a runny Tokyo-style griddle pancake) and a single signature okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), adding shrimp (₩3,000) and scallions (₩1,000) as toppings. Since you can add all kinds of toppings to every dish, it felt like building your own yaki, haha.
- Monjayaki set for two (mentaiko monjayaki + karai yakisoba (+ extra shrimp topping, ₩3,000) + waterfall potato)
- [À la carte] Jojo signature okonomiyaki (+ scallion topping, ₩1,000)

Once we'd ordered, they set the table with cold water, pickled radish and the tools for teppan cooking (spatulas and so on) (՞•ω•՞)

Hanmac draft beer and cider
While waiting for the food, the drinks came out first! I ordered the soulmate of teppan food, an ice-cold Hanmac draft beer (420ml), while my friend, a self-declared alcohol hater (a 'sul-jjil-i', basically someone who can't handle drinking), had refreshing cider. Cheers!
That first sip of draft beer after work is a real oasis in the desert. 🍺

Karai yakisoba with extra shrimp: is it worth it?
Jojo's karai yakisoba is griddled stir-fried noodles in a sweet and spicy sauce, and adding the shrimp topping (₩3,000) brought a plump, juicy bite that I loved. I'd read reviews saying extra shrimp is a must for the spicy karai yakisoba, so I added it, and yep... it looked like a total win from the first glance!!
They set it up so you crack the fresh egg yolk and mix it into the noodles ( 'ヮ')

The sweet and spicy sauce soaks right into the noodles, and the texture of the plump shrimp was a work of art. Among all the potentially heavy teppan dishes, this spicy one keeps everything balanced. A real workhorse ><haha

Mentaiko monjayaki: do the staff cook it for you?
At Jojo the staff cook the mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) monjayaki for you on the griddle from start to finish, and it comes with cheese topping (with seaweed flakes) as standard. What a visual! Honestly, monjayaki takes a lot of work and good timing if you make it yourself, but the friendly staff cook it to perfection with dazzling skill. All we had to do was relax, watch and eat! haha
Before putting the monjayaki on the griddle, they poured oil to heat the plate evenly ₍ᐢ › ̫ ‹ ᐢ₎ And then, drop it in!!!!!!!!!!!! I never thought I'd get to try the monjayaki I'd only heard about, not in Japan but right here in Korea!!!!!!!!!!
After mixing the ingredients in the bowl well, they placed the mochi (rice cake) on one by one at even intervals!! Then it bubbled away over high heat, and we waited for it to cook (⌯'ᢦ'⌯) They left a 5-minute countdown timer, so we had a bit of waiting time, haha.
Each person also gets their own cute little monjayaki spoon (っ˘зʕ•̫͡•ʔ Ahh haha, everyone scoops with it, and somehow you get a little cuter doing it..? Next time I want to bring a friend and watch them scoop away with this spoon..hahahaha
Salty mentaiko with its popping texture, plus the fun of scraping up the bits that stick to the griddle... I couldn't stop spooning. The mochi texture is crazy, so I'd say add even more of it as a topping, seriously.

What is the waterfall potato at Jojo?
Jojo's waterfall potato is smooth mashed potato with cheese and egg yolk sauce cascading over it like a waterfall, great as a palate cleanser before the mains or as a beer snack ♥ It's rich yet soft, and I kept going back for more. A perfect beer snack. ʕっꈍᗜꈍςʔ

Signature okonomiyaki: the scallion topping is a must
Jojo's signature okonomiyaki has shrimp, squid, beef and pork all in it, and the scallion topping I added for ₩1,000 tied all those ingredients together harmoniously. Coming to Jojo and skipping the signature would be a shame. Everyone, adding scallions is not optional, it's a must. The scallions play the role of the perfect supporting actor *´︶´*)ノ

The thick okonomiyaki was also cooked by the staff to be moist inside and crispy outside, the best doneness. Since the monjayaki was already on the griddle, they prepared the okonomiyaki separately, fully cooked and ready to eat (what a thoughtful touch...). But eating it on the griddle just feels better, so I moved it onto the griddle..hahahahahaha kekeke
The okonomiyaki also has its own spoon, slightly bigger than the monjayaki one? I guess since it isn't as hot as monjayaki and you get the fun of cutting it, they gave us a slightly bigger spoon *´ސު`*

The sharp bite of the generously heaped scallions cuts the greasiness and lifts the flavor. The harmony with the sauce was just perfect ෆ•͈ ·̫ •͈ෆ Because of that, I hardly needed the extra sauces on the table (spicy, teriyaki, mayo)!
Group seating, high chairs and restrooms at Jojo Mullae Branch
Jojo has a private space inside, so it's good to reserve ahead when you're gathering a group, and there are 2 types of high chairs. Today was just a simple after-work meal, but for a larger group I think reserving first would be wise! I also liked that they'd thought of customers with kids by providing high chairs ◟⁽ˆᵕˆ ⁾⸜
I'm usually reluctant about places that use shared building restrooms, but here the men's and women's restrooms are inside the restaurant and kept neat and clean, so full marks out of a hundred. Two kinds of hand soap plus a deodorizer too..b top-notch preparation
Is Jojo Mullae Branch good for an after-work date or a night with friends?
Besides the food, thanks to the staff's energetic cheer and the care they put into cooking everything for you, I really got to unwind after work at Jojo! The cozy atmosphere makes it a great date course, and it's just perfect for a cold beer with friends!! If you're looking for a proper teppan restaurant in Mullae, I recommend it without hesitation!
