Daehak-ro poke shop without its salad wrap: smoked duck box, Sallering
In short
Sallering Daehak-ro is a poke and salad shop near Hyehwa Station in Jongno, Seoul. After a visit to Seoul National University Hospital, the writer took home a grilled chicken thigh bibim poke (mixed poke bowl) with brown barley rice and classic balsamic, plus a smoked duck slim pack lunch box with sweet pumpkin salad. The writer also found that Sallering Daehak-ro had discontinued its salad wraps and added more protein rice bowls. Losing the salad wrap is a shame, but Sallering Daehak-ro is still a good place to pick up a light yet filling solo dinner in Hyehwa.

On the day I went to Seoul National University Hospital, I stopped by Sallering Daehak-ro again to sort out a simple dinner.

Last time I took out poke and a Salad Wrap, and I remembered it being filling without feeling heavy. I planned to get a Salad Wrap again, but after a while away, the menu had changed.

Has the Salad Wrap at Sallering Daehak-ro been discontinued?
I was told the Salad Wrap items at Sallering Daehak-ro were discontinued as of this visit. In their place, there seemed to be a wider range of protein rice bowls.
The basil shrimp cutlet Salad Wrap I had last time was light, with a subtle basil aroma, and I really liked it. When I visited this time, they told me the wraps were gone. There were so many kinds that picking one was half the fun, so I'm a little sad. T_T

For people who want to get their protein and have a solid meal, though, this is probably a welcome change.
What I took out from Sallering Daehak-ro
This time I took out two things from Sallering Daehak-ro: the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke and the smoked duck slim pack lunch box.
- Grilled chicken thigh bibim poke
- Smoked duck slim pack lunch box

For the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke I chose brown barley rice with classic balsamic sauce, and for the smoked duck slim pack lunch box I went with the pumpkin salad option.

Grilled chicken thigh bibim poke, brown barley rice and classic balsamic
I ordered the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke with brown barley rice and classic balsamic sauce. First, the poke! With poke, I only feel like I've had a proper meal when there's rice in it, so I like that Sallering lets you choose brown barley rice.

I went with brown barley rice again this time. Sallering describes it as low-calorie rice made with olive oil, which caught my eye even more.

This kind of setup looks good when you want to watch what you eat. Grilled chicken thigh with vegetables and brown barley rice was a light meal that still kept me reasonably full. In the evening especially, there are times I don't want anything too heavy, and a poke like this is a good pick for that.
Smoked duck slim pack lunch box with pumpkin salad
The smoked duck slim pack lunch box comes with smoked duck and pumpkin salad on the side. It's a different kind of dish from the poke, so I thought it would be nice to take both and pick between them depending on the meal.

When you're eating alone, you can't be bothered to put together something grand every time, but you don't want to just skip a proper meal either. That's when a menu like this turns out to be surprisingly useful.
The Sallering cleanse juice I spotted while waiting
While waiting for my takeout at Sallering Daehak-ro, something caught my eye: the 100% pressed cleanse juice!

I usually only look at the poke and salad menus, but that day I suddenly got curious about the juice. haha

It seems like it would go well with a meal too, so I'll have to try it next time.
How was the revisit to Sallering Daehak-ro?
The Salad Wrap being discontinued was a letdown, but it was still fun to see how the menu had changed. I took out the grilled chicken thigh bibim poke and the smoked duck slim pack lunch box to put together my dinner.

It's a decent place to stop by when you're looking for a solo meal in Hyehwa, or want a simple dinner to go after a trip to Seoul National University Hospital. I took it out again this time, so next time I'll eat in the shop.

And then I'll try that cleanse juice I had my eye on today. haha
