First photo of the visit to Padong, a Japanese restaurant near Mangwon Station

Today we went to Padong (파동), a famous Japanese restaurant near Mangwon Station. I picked a quiet weekday time and went with my husband and our 8-month-old baby. Let me tell you about the futomaki and mazesoba we loved so much, gogo!

Where is Padong, and what are the hours and parking?

Padong is at 47 Worldcup-ro 17-gil, B1F, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is open 11:30–21:00 from Wednesday to Monday and closed on Tuesdays. There is no break time, and they say it may close early once ingredients run out.

PS. If you use the Mangwon 1-2 public parking lot, Padong is about a 4-minute walk, so it's easy to get to. Our car is electric, so we got a low-emission discount. Still, it's ₩300 per 5 minutes, which is a bit pricey :-)

Padong waiting: when is it relaxed?

On weekends, waiting at Padong is a must! We aimed for a quiet weekday time, so we could eat in peace. With a baby, I feel much better going earlier and at calm hours. We went around 4pm on a weekday :-)

Wood-toned open-kitchen interior of Padong

Padong has an open kitchen, so it feels hygienic, and the cozy wood-toned interior seemed great for a date. I also liked that the tables are spaced so you wouldn't feel awkward dining alone, and the warm atmosphere left an impression.

I really recommend the karaage side. Such great value.. the portion was huge and so tasty, I was surprised..♥

Can you bring a baby and stroller to Padong?

Padong has no high chairs, but strollers are allowed, so we could eat with our 8-month-old sitting in the stroller. The chef and staff doted on the baby, and she waited for the food nicely.

Seat at Padong where we waited for food with the baby

Our baby waited so well for the food.. Maybe because the chef has a toddler at home, he found her so adorable, T_T The staff made eye contact with her too..T_T Thanks to them she wasn't shy at all and waited really well..!!

By the way, Padong is a half-basement spot with a trendy vibe, so I worried whether babies were welcome and called ahead. They said strollers were fine, so we went. They seated us where there was plenty of room for the stroller.. ♥ I thought that once I had a baby I could only come to places like this when we were dating, so being here felt wonderful..T_T

The food came out right away, which was great. A long wait.. is not okay.T_T Gotta mind the baby ☆

How is Padong's mazesoba? Spice level and sauce

A bowl of Padong mazesoba

Padong's mazesoba (brothless mixed noodles) has a moderate spice level, about like Shin Ramyun, and includes peanut sauce, so even people who can't handle spice can enjoy the kick. Personally the mazesoba left the biggest impression on me. It's not something I usually eat, but I really enjoyed it.

The noodles were springy and coated in the sauce, they went together perfectly. It reminded me of rose mala, a combination that can't possibly be bad.

Spicy-looking Padong mazesoba

Of course, the looks alone earn a pass-the-medal... the food came out fast, the portion was big, and eating it in such a nice atmosphere was wonderful.

The yolk must be fresh, because it didn't break even when lifted, just springy,, Mix it up and eat it in one bite and it's pure heaven, so I strongly recommend the mazesoba!

Padong futomaki: how big is it?

Padong futomaki served in four pieces

Padong's futomaki looks like only 4 pieces.. but these things are seriously huge. I love futomaki so I ordered it, and after two pieces I felt like I'd burst.

Padong futomaki too big for one bite

It's too heavy to pick up with chopsticks and won't fit in your mouth in one bite, so you have to split it. Haha, even better! The plate isn't small, yet suddenly it looks small, what magic..

Padong side dish recommendation: karaage

Karaage side dish at Padong

I didn't expect much from the karaage.. but it was a generous, delicious side! The two of us ordered 2 mains and 1 side and we were so full.. we didn't feel like eating anything the next time.

Generous portion of Padong karaage

We ate a hearty meal at Padong near Mangwon Station! We'll definitely come again with the baby. It's near Mangwon Hangang Park, so if you're looking for a good place in Mangwon, I highly recommend Padong :-)
