Chicken pub date in Samsan, Ulsan: dakgangjeong at Daehan Beer House

Daehan Beer House Ulsan Daldong is a chicken pub with large screens near Dal-dong and Samsan in Nam-gu, Ulsan, serving cauldron-fried chicken and beer. On a date, the writer and her boyfriend ordered boneless jocheong dakgangjeong (fried chicken glazed in sweet grain syrup, 21,000 won) and chicken feet stir-fried noodles (17,000 won); the rich syrup sweetness paired well with the spicy boneless chicken feet, and the leftovers were packed to go and lasted until the next day. Daehan Beer House Ulsan Daldong is a good pick for chicken and beer while watching sports, or for two people sharing plenty of food.

Yeonam Charcoal-Grilled Pork Backbone & Gamjatang is a Korean restaurant serving charcoal-grilled pork backbone and gamjatang (pork bone potato stew) in Daeheung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, within walking distance of the Sungsimdang main bakery. On a summer day trip to Daejeon, a couple ordered the small charcoal-stone pork bone grill for ₩34,000 and added a rice ball, udon noodles and a drink for ₩43,000 in total; even spice level 1 was quite hot, but the mayo-loaded rice ball kept them eating. Yeonam is an ideal dinner to cut through the richness of a Sungsimdang bread run.
