Sangam-dong eel restaurant: pollack roe mayo steamed egg, Ryeok
In short
Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom (력 민물장어구이전문점) is a freshwater eel restaurant in Sangam-dong, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Exit 9 of Digital Media City Station. Two of us came for dinner and ordered half salt-grilled, half sauce-grilled eel and a steamed egg topped with pollack roe mayo, and the free altang (spicy fish roe soup), packed with roe, made the meal even more filling. Because Ryeok pre-grills the eel over 90% before it reaches the table, the smell barely clings and you can eat quickly, which makes it a solid pick for a team lunch or work dinner.

I had errands in Sangam-dong and heard there was a great eel restaurant nearby, so I stopped by Ryeok Minmul Jangeogui Jeonmunjeom. It seems perfect for eel rice bowls at lunch and grilled eel for a work dinner, so I'd definitely recommend it as a work meal spot near Digital Media City Station 🎣

What's the vibe like, outside and in?

Ryeok is close to Digital Media City Station, so it's convenient to reach by public transit. There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, I'd recommend the nearby Sangam 1 public parking lot 🚘

A spotlessly kept tank right at the entrance caught my eye, with live freshwater eel swimming inside — it had me excited about the eel quality before I'd even stepped in . . ❤︎🎣

There are so many offices around Sangam-dong, and the restaurant has plenty of tables and a clean interior, so it seems perfect for lunch or dinner work meals 🕴️ I visited in the evening, and groups of all sizes, small and large, were having work dinners there!

It's apparently already famous as an eel restaurant in Sangam-dong — there were a lot of celebrity signatures on the wall ᐟ.ᐟ

🧾 What we ordered — salt-grilled eel, sauce-grilled eel, steamed egg
Side dishes, the free altang, and pollack roe steamed egg

The side dishes that came out to eat alongside the eel were all neat and tasty, which only whetted the appetite more 🥺

There was scallion kimchi, ginger, salad, shiitake wasabi mushrooms, seasoned garlic, sweet pumpkin salad, and pickled radish, among others.

They even gave us altang for free — truly a perfect finish . . 🤍 It's served so neatly it would be great for treating elders to a meal too.
I saw the steamed egg looking delicious at another table, so I ordered it, and it was genuinely amazing ㅠㅠㅠ Topped with pollack roe mayo, it was such a win. If you like fluffy, souffle-textured steamed egg, you have to try this 🥚

This is the free altang. It's packed full of fish roe and minari (water dropwort), and the broth's spiciness was on another level. It was so good I'd want to order it separately next time ˊᵕˋ
Half salt-grilled, half sauce-grilled eel — how did it taste?

The two of us ordered half sauce-grilled and half salt-grilled. It came with sam (perilla-style wraps) too, perfect for restoring our energy.
They only use domestic first-grade Japonica eel, caught and prepared the same day — with eel that fresh, it can't not be delicious . . !

The eel comes pre-grilled over 90%, so you only need to warm it briefly on the grill. That meant barely any smell clung to our clothes and we could eat quickly — eel that's basically already grilled is perfect for a work dinner.

My first bite was dipped in salt to taste the eel's natural flavor, then I tried it with eel sauce, wasabi, and the side dishes — no fishy smell at all, just chewy and clean, incredible. ᐟ.ᐟ The sauce-grilled version was sweet and savory, total rice thief. I had my face in the bowl scraping it clean.

On a hot summer day when I needed some restorative energy, eating well from the neat side dishes to the quality eel left me feeling full of vigor 🤤 Next time I plan to come back for lunch and try the eel rice bowl — if you like eel, I highly recommend Ryeok, a great Sangam-dong restaurant!
