Why we stopped at Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center in Pohang's Jukdo Market on the way to Uljin

I took a trip around Gyeongbuk with a friend over the weekend. Our final destination was Uljin, but on the way we stopped in Pohang for delicious snow crab (daegae) for lunch. Jukdo Market is famous for tasty crab at reasonable prices, and we went to Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center (영광회대게센타), a crab and raw fish restaurant there.

To me, the good value here seems to come from the owner's mindset of selling at honest prices. Crab is expensive, so I don't usually get to eat it, and I was really happy to have fresh, good-value crab.

What are the tanks and dining hall like?

The tanks hold bakdal crab, snow crab, king crab and all kinds of live fish! They're huge and there are so many. You can eat everything fresh and tasty, and above all the tanks are kept clean, so I could eat with confidence.

The restaurant has a large hall with tables for 4 to 8 people, and plenty of other customers. It's a great place to visit on a trip to Pohang.

What sets are on the menu?

The menu has the Bakdal Special, Lobster Special, Daegae Special, Korean Bakdal Special, Red Crab Special and Dokdo Shrimp Special, plus an assorted sashimi set, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), hoebap (raw fish over rice), a seafood platter and steamed shrimp..! So many choices, which I love.

We ordered the Daegae Special set for 2, which gives you crab + mulhoe + assorted sashimi + crab ramyeon all in one. The best part of Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center, haha, is that we came for crab but got this whole spread of side dishes. You'd be full on these alone!

Looks delicious, right? Jukdo Market has lots of crab and raw fish restaurants, but the side dishes at Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center were really good.

Free live octopus, and the sashimi and mulhoe while the crab steams

We even got fresh live octopus (sannakji) as a free extra, which was great. Dipped in sesame oil, it was so nutty, hahaha

While the crab was steaming, they also brought out raw fish sashimi. It was fresh and tasty, and chewy. So chewy.

Finally, the crab we ordered arrived. The staff prepare the steamed crab for you at the table, so all you have to do is eat.

The legs were really packed with meat, and fresh crab isn't salty, right? The crab here wasn't salty, so I never got tired of it and kept eating.

See how thick the claw meat is?? When I scraped the meat out of the legs, there was so much.

You can eat the crab meat with the guts in the shell too. But if you want fried rice later, leave the guts. Then you get even tastier fried rice.

The shrimp and scallops they steamed alongside as a free extra were so good too!

If you leave the guts in the crab shell, you can finish with crab guts bibimbap (rice mixed with the guts).

After the guts bibimbap, the last course was seafood ramyeon~~~ Wow, I ate until I was truly stuffed today, such a satisfying meal.

For a crab and raw fish restaurant in Pohang's Jukdo Market, I recommend Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center. My friend was very happy too. The staff were kind, so we could eat comfortably and enjoy the meal. If you want tasty snow crab at a reasonable price in Pohang, do stop by when you visit Jukdo Market or travel in Pohang~
