I'd always thought about trying a Brazilian wax once, but every time I got close to actually booking it, I'd hesitate — wouldn't it hurt a lot, wouldn't it be awkward since it's my first time... But this time I finally went for it, my very first Brazilian wax ever! The place I went to was Nu Waxing & Brow, Sinnonhyeon branch, a Brazilian waxing studio in Gangnam.

How much does a first Brazilian wax hurt?

My first Brazilian wax at Nu Waxing & Brow, Sinnonhyeon Station branch, had about four moments where I definitely felt a sharp sting, out of the whole process. I was really nervous since it was my first time, but to cut to the chase — it was way better than I expected. Other than those four moments it didn't hurt nearly as much as I'd worried, so overall I'd say I got through it pretty comfortably.

Getting to Nu Waxing & Brow from Sinnonhyeon Station

This Gangnam waxing shop, Nu Waxing, was close to Exit 5 of Sinnonhyeon Station. Just think 'Spao building, 7th floor' — once you find the building, there are signs the whole way up, so it wasn't as hard to find as I expected.

Elevator ride! I went up feeling a little nervous but also curious what it would be like, haha.

The shop is open daily from 11am to 9pm. I visited after work. Walking in, I immediately thought the atmosphere was bright and upscale.

At the entrance you switch into indoor slippers before going in~~ I'd been feeling a bit excited coming over, but the moment I got to the entrance and changed into slippers, the nerves started kicking in, haha. Still, since it was my first Gangnam Brazilian wax, I walked in with some anticipation!!

Hygiene at Nu Waxing & Brow: the no-double-dip rule

Nu Waxing & Brow's Sinnonhyeon Station branch runs on a no-double-dip system. Waxing is a treatment that touches your skin directly, so hygiene really matters. They don't redip the spatula used to apply wax back into the pot — they use dozens of spatulas per person to cut down on cross-contamination and hygiene issues, which was reassuring to hear.

The shop offers a range of waxing options depending on the area you want done — body waxing, facial waxing, eyebrow waxing, Brazilian waxing, and more.

After eyebrow waxing in particular, they can also do custom skin makeup for you. Depending on what treatment you need, this Gangnam waxing shop seems like a good option to consider.

They had me fill out a consultation form, discussing the areas I wanted done before starting.

Once I chose Brazilian, they walked me through the types and the process. I also got an explanation of the men's and women's options — I decided on all-nude.

They also explained what the basic waxing course involves. This studio has 4 veteran waxers working together, so sisters, friends, or couples can each get treated at the same time in different rooms.

Home care and ingrown hairs after a Brazilian wax

Rather than treating it as a one-time thing, they recommend keeping up home care afterward, so the shop also sells home care products like scrubs and feminine cleansers. I already had my own products at home, so I didn't buy anything extra.

If ingrown hairs are something you worry about, it's worth asking about home care methods too. They said proper scrubbing really matters!!

One room, one shower per guest: from prep to treatment

Nu Waxing & Brow's Sinnonhyeon Station branch is set up with a one-person-per-room, one-shower system. Since privacy matters even more here than with other kinds of waxing, having the whole process — prep through treatment — happen in a private, independent space made it feel comfortable and personal.

I was shown to my own room, left my bag and clothes in the closet, washed the Y-zone, and by the time I came out, the staff had already gotten everything ready for the waxing.

After washing up, I changed into the provided gown and the treatment began. I also found out Nu Waxing runs a Lycon Wax Academy salon alongside its regular service — having an actual waxing training program in place made me feel like there was real expertise behind it, haha.

They even give you a cute little duck plushie to squeeze if it hurts, haha. They said they use premium wax and natural high-end aroma care products to prevent irritation and reduce pain, and true to that, it didn't hurt nearly as much as I'd braced myself for.

Finishing with the mint cooling pack

After the waxing was done, you get to pick your finishing pack yourself. They offered a choice of collagen, vitamin brightening, or mint cooling, and I went with the mint cooling pack. Once it was on, the cool sensation felt great — personally I think I picked the right one.

Ending with the pack made the whole thing feel a little more relaxed and complete. Afterward everything felt clean and well taken care of, so I think I'll come back again, haha.
