What kind of jazz bar is Flat Nine?
Flat Nine is a jazz bar near Gangnam Station where you can eat a course meal while watching live jazz. If you're looking for a special date or anniversary spot in Gangnam, I'd recommend Flat Nine for the atmosphere, the food and the music. With soft lighting and stylish interiors, plus live jazz, it felt like sitting in a concert hall the whole meal.
It isn't just a place to drink; it's a restaurant with course meals, so it suits dates, birthdays and anniversaries, days that mean a bit more. The music isn't too loud, so we could talk comfortably, and being able to enjoy a meal and a performance at the same time was a big plus.

What we ordered at Flat Nine
We ordered the Classic Course for 2. From appetizer to dessert it was tastier than I expected, so I was happy haha
What is the live jazz at Flat Nine like?
The biggest draw of Flat Nine is, without question, the live jazz. The music under the soft lighting lifted the whole space, and it made for a relaxed mood where I could just focus on eating.
The interior is classy but not overwhelming, so it suits anniversary dates, but also get-togethers with friends or family!! Any time, any purpose. The lineup seemed to change from day to day.

Honestly... I came without big expectations, but the singing was so good, and it really captured the jazz mood, that I fell for the charm of jazz before I knew it.

Is Flat Nine good for a first jazz bar visit?
Even if you don't know much about jazz or it's your first time at a jazz bar, the mood at Flat Nine is easy to enjoy, so there was no pressure~!!! If you're curious about jazz bars, or want to enjoy jazz again after a long time, visit Flat Nine after work or on a weekend!! It will probably beat your expectations haha

How long are the live sets at Flat Nine?
The performance ran two sets of about 40 to 50 minutes each: 1st set → break → 2nd set. I never thought I'd stay to the end! LOL And it went longer and deeper than at other jazz bars, which I liked. It felt like I got my money's worth, haha
Flat Nine Classic Course: what's in it and how it tastes
This time we chose the Classic Course. Dishes came in order from the starter to dessert, so we could eat at a relaxed pace, and the whole course was well balanced, which I liked.

The course came one neat plate at a time, so the meal flowed naturally, and the plating was refined, so it was fun to enjoy with the eyes first haha

With every dish prepared so carefully, I felt like a guest being treated specially!

Main course: Jeju black pork tenderloin steak
The dish that stood out in the Classic Course was, of course(?) haha, the main: the Jeju black pork tenderloin steak.

The texture was far more tender than ordinary pork, and the clean flavor and juiciness typical of tenderloin came through so well that every bite filled my mouth with flavor~ haha

The outside was golden and nutty, and the inside stayed juicy at medium-rare, so the balance of textures was really great..!! It wasn't tough at all, and the tenderness made it easy to eat.

Dessert: rich chocolate cake
And then the final dessert... a really, really rich chocolate cake. I don't usually like chocolate desserts, yet I scraped the plate clean, it was that good.

Are the Flat Nine course portions big enough?
I had the stereotype that course meals are small, but the Flat Nine Classic Course left me properly full by the end, which raised my satisfaction even more. Eating slowly while watching the jazz, time just flew by..!!
