Yangyang café for coffee and electric boat rides: Cafe Dunchi
In short
Cafe Dunchi is a waterside café on the Namdaecheon in Yangyang, Gangwon, where visitors can also take an electric boat ride. We took iced Americanos onto the boat and spent 30 minutes looking around the river. The controls were simple, though the café was nearly full at Saturday lunchtime.

During our trip to Yangyang, we visited Cafe Dunchi, a waterside café on the Namdaecheon. We took out iced Americanos and used an electric boat for 30 minutes. Being able to slowly go around on the river with coffee in hand was what stayed with me.
Where is Cafe Dunchi, and is parking easy?
The address is 295 Ilchul-ro, Yangyang-eup, Yangyang-gun. There was a large free parking lot directly in front of the café, so parking was easy.
According to the original post, the café is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:30. Boat rides run from 10:00 to 18:00, until 30 minutes before sunset for safety. Boats cannot be used in rain or strong winds.
What food is available with coffee?
Along with coffee and other drinks, there were bakery items and desserts. There were more kinds of bread than I expected, and they seemed good for having with coffee. We only ordered iced Americanos to take out.
Can you see the Namdaecheon well from the café?
The café was on the second floor, and the Namdaecheon spread out beyond the windows as soon as we entered. The seating area was fairly spacious. However, when we visited at Saturday lunchtime, it was nearly full of guests.
What do electric boat rides cost, and how do you prepare?
At Cafe Dunchi, you can also use electric boats operated by the Namdaecheon Watersports Experience Center. According to the original post, a boat for one to four people costs ₩30,000, while one for one to six people costs ₩35,000. We rode for 30 minutes that day.
Before getting on the boat, we had to wear life jackets. Several sizes were available, so we chose ones that fit.
Is an electric boat difficult to drive for the first time?
At first, I worried that having to drive it myself might be difficult, but the controls were simple once we tried. We just turned the steering wheel right or left in the direction we wanted to go, so we had no trouble driving it.
The boat was not fast, which made it nice for slowly taking in the surrounding scenery. The weather was cool that day, and the breeze on the river felt refreshing.
Can you bring coffee from the café onto the boat?
When we visited, we could bring takeout drinks from the café onto the boat. Slowly going around the Namdaecheon while drinking iced Americanos was the best part of this visit.
The café was busy with Saturday lunch guests, but we spent 30 relaxed minutes on the boat looking at the river scenery. It was an outing that combined coffee with a short water activity during our Yangyang trip.
