In short
Ilpum Yeouido Branch is a kaisendon (raw seafood rice bowl) and sushi restaurant in the basement of Anwon Building, right outside Exit 3 of National Assembly Station in Yeouido, Seoul. Ilpum Yeouido Branch is a kaisendon place my younger cousin told me I had to try whenever I'm in Yeouido. To get straight to the point, I understood right away why so many people come back here T_T Kaisendon (raw seafood rice bowl) shows immediately if the fish isn't fresh, but from the very first bite I thought, okay, this is definitely a revisit.

This kaisendon spot is on the first basement floor of Anwon Building in Yeouido! Yeouido is full of office workers, so it's famous enough to have a wait not just at weekday lunch but at dinner too!

Inside Ilpum Yeouido Branch, busy even on weekends
Ilpum Yeouido Branch was full of customers even on the weekend. I went on a weekend, and it was so packed that I could only take photos of the interior when I was on my way out.
The inside is clean and tidy overall, and bigger than I expected! There are bar seats, so it's great for eating alone in Yeouido, and I loved that the open kitchen lets you watch the food being prepared right in front of you!
It looks like a lot of famous people have been here too! One wall was covered in autographs haha
Ilpum Yeouido Branch menu and how to order

You order from the menu by QR code. After wondering what to eat, we ordered the premium kaisendon and the futomaki (thick sushi roll)!
- Premium kaisendon ₩37,000
- Ilpum futomaki, one roll ₩28,000

Starters: chawanmushi, miso-style soup and white kimchi
The first thing to come out after we ordered was the chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg)! It was soft and warm, just right as a starter!

There was a shrimp under the chawanmushi that added texture, which was perfect! A soup and white kimchi come along too, and the white kimchi is a real treat wrapped with the aged sashimi that comes a bit later, and with seaweed..
It's an open kitchen, so they make the kaisendon right in front of you, and honestly they keep the kitchen so clean!!! It made me trust the place so much T_T
How was the premium kaisendon (₩37,000)?

The premium kaisendon at Ilpum Yeouido Branch is ₩37,000, generously topped with all kinds of seafood like salmon, tuna, flounder and sweet shrimp. I gasped at the look of it alone,, and above all the condition of the fish was really good haha
Freshness is a given, and the tenderness that aged sashimi has is alive in it, so it felt like it melted in my mouth T_T
With kaisendon the fish matters, but the rice matters too, right? At Ilpum Yeouido Branch the rice itself is seasoned, so it's tasty even on its own~

The rice seasoning isn't overdone, so it brings out the seafood flavor even more! Gamtae (seaweed) and regular laver come with it too, so you can wrap bites however you like, and that was a treat as well haha
Just so fresh, and the combo of sea urchin, sweet shrimp and salmon roe,, the best, the best~

Is the Ilpum futomaki (₩28,000) worth ordering?
The futomaki at Ilpum Yeouido Branch is ₩28,000 for one roll, and personally it's the dish I was really happy with! The size is crazy, isn't it..
The size was overwhelming from the start, and the filling is really packed! One bite and you get all the textures and flavors at once haha

It has egg, seafood and vegetables in a good balance, so I never got tired of it and kept eating haha If you like futomaki, please give it a try haha

Standard udon and pudding for dessert
Udon comes as part of the standard set at Ilpum Yeouido Branch, and the noodles were really bouncy. The texture was so good, and the fried item served with it looked like fish cake and went well with it~
One bite with monkfish liver, then one with salmon roe, gamtae and sweet shrimp haha My mouth was so happy~

For dessert they serve a pudding(?) with mango syrup on top, and that was good too!
It was such a fresh, delicious meal that if friends in Yeouido ask what to eat, I'd say let's go to Ilpum for kaisendon, no question :)
