Weekday Sokcho café with tissue bread and Neorae Latte: Cafe Neorae
In short
Cafe Neorae is a large café on Wonam Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon, near the sundubu (soft tofu) restaurant street, with views of Ulsanbawi Rock in Seoraksan. On a weekday afternoon the writer ordered tissue bread, the signature Neorae Latte and an iced Americano, and drinking the latte the way the staff suggested brought a bitter coffee note up behind the sweetness. Cafe Neorae is an easy stop for resting by the floor-to-ceiling windows after a sundubu lunch.

Traveling around Sokcho, you'll pass a alley packed with sundubu (soft tofu stew) restaurants. Right near there is a large café that's perfect to stop by after a meal, so I checked it out. It's Cafe Neorae. A café with a gorgeous view of Ulsanbawi Rock in Seoraksan!
Cafe Neorae

Where is Cafe Neorae, and how close is it to the sundubu village?
Cafe Neorae is a large café on Wonam Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, right in the middle of an area packed with sundubu restaurants. So it's a great spot to swing by for a coffee after lunch or dinner.

Above all, the café is fairly large, so it's good for group visits, and the seating is generous enough that even when it's a bit busy, you can still sit comfortably.

What bakery items does Cafe Neorae sell?
Cafe Neorae had a nice variety of bakery items ready to go along with the drinks.

From croissants to potato bread and sweet potato bread, there were quite a few breads that pair nicely with coffee.

After some deliberation, we ordered one tissue bread, Cafe Neorae's signature drink the Neorae Latte, and an iced Americano.

How does the Neorae Latte taste, and how do the staff say to drink it?
The Neorae Latte is Cafe Neorae's signature menu item, so curiosity got the better of me and I ordered it. I don't usually go for sweet coffee drinks, but tasting it myself, it was a bit unique.
The staff member told me how to drink it, and as the sweet drink and the coffee blended together, a bitter coffee taste came through more than expected. It felt different from the sweet coffees I usually drink, so at first I thought, 'oh, this is what it's like,' but after a few sips it became a flavor that kept lingering in my mind. I could see why it's famous as the signature menu item. If you like sweet coffee, this is worth ordering at least once.

Tissue bread at Cafe Neorae: better than expected
And the tissue bread also exceeded expectations. It had a subtle buttery aroma and the bread itself was soft, pairing well with coffee. Personally, I felt the bread's quality was good enough to pass for a dedicated bakery café. If you want to enjoy good dessert and coffee together in Sokcho, I'd recommend ordering from the bakery menu too.

Which floor has the Ulsanbawi Rock view?
What I liked most about Cafe Neorae was, of course, the view.

Even though I visited on a weekday, customers kept coming in, so it seems like a fairly famous café in Sokcho.

Going upstairs, floor-to-ceiling windows bring Seoraksan and Ulsanbawi Rock into full view. The weather happened to be really good that day too. With the blue sky and Seoraksan scenery spreading out through the glass, I found myself gazing at it for a long time while sipping coffee. It was a moment that really made me feel like I'd made it to Sokcho. Especially on a clear day when you can see Ulsanbawi, just sitting in the café with a cup of coffee is enough to fully enjoy the travel mood.

Who is Cafe Neorae best for?
Since Cafe Neorae is fairly large, with varied seating and generous spacing between tables, it looked good for family visits too. It's also nice for stopping by while traveling with friends or spending relaxed time on a date.
Above all, since it's close to the area packed with sundubu restaurants, a course like sundubu meal → Cafe Neorae → enjoying the Ulsanbawi view could work well.
If you want to enjoy good coffee and bakery items while also taking in a gorgeous view of Seoraksan during your Sokcho trip, Cafe Neorae is worth a visit. Since I happened to visit on a beautiful weather day, the coffee was great, but what stuck with me most was the Ulsanbawi scenery through the floor-to-ceiling windows. If you're looking for a large café in Sokcho with generous seating and a great Ulsanbawi view, this is a place worth visiting at least once.
