Daegu tuna restaurant near Jungangno Station: Jongno Darang cut order
In short
Jongno Darang is a tuna restaurant in Jung-gu, Daegu, about 5 minutes on foot from Jungangno Station and the Dongseongno shopping street. Meeting an old friend, the writer ordered the small bluefin tuna platter for ₩60,000 and worked through the cuts in the order the staff suggested — special cut, akami (red flesh), belly, then navel — finishing some pieces as sushi with vinegared rice. Jongno Darang skips elaborate side dishes and puts everything into the tuna itself, so the nutty richness of each cut comes through clearly.

Went to Jongno Darang, a tuna restaurant, with a friend I hadn't seen in a while ;) I heard it's become a hot tuna spot lately? I'd been craving tuna for ages ,, figured it was time to go check it out haha

Since it's in Dongseongno, accessibility is good, so public transit is probably better than driving. Bus stops are about a 3–5 minute walk, and even getting off at Jungangno Station it's about a 5 minute walk!

Booths, regular tables, and kiosk ordering at Jongno Darang
The seats inside Jongno Darang are set up as partitioned booths. Felt like you could enjoy it a bit more privately ><ㅎ

If booths feel too closed-in, there are also regular tables, so pick whichever suits you! By the way ,, the interior color scheme is exactly my taste

There's a kiosk at every table so you can order comfortably and wait — they bring out the basic side dishes while you wait

An appetite-boosting fruit salad, and side dishes to eat along with the tuna!

Small bluefin platter ₩60,000: which cut to eat first
We ordered the small bluefin tuna platter for ₩60,000. Look at that tuna color ,, even looking back at the photos my mouth is watering, that gorgeous pink hueㅠ

The staff explained each cut and even told us the order to eat them in. Special cut, navel, medium belly, fatty belly, and akami (red flesh)! They said to eat the special cut first, then the akami, then the belly, then the navel, in that order ;)ㅎ

They also give you vinegared rice, so you can make it into sushi too. Eating it as sushi was so good ,, looking back it's so fresh, the color is amazing too, that glossy sheen is just love ?ㅎ

I ate exactly in the order the staff told us ㅎ there's always a reason behind their advice haha. That's probably why it tasted even better

They said to eat the special cut first, so I wrapped it up and ate it first. It had a chewy, dense texture! Added some wasabi too, and it went really well with the tangy baek-kimchi (white kimchi)

Wrapping tuna in lettuce is half the fun, right? Kept wrapping and eating away!

Is Jongno Darang worth it for dates, work dinners, or treating family?
While my friend and I were happily drinking, the owner sent out a complimentary dish too, and it was rich and delicious ;) Another meal well eaten, and with the clean interior it'd make a great date spot too. Since they give you good food at a fair price without breaking the bank, it'd be great for dates, and also great for treating your elders! And the larger seating area looked like it'd be convenient for group work dinners too.
Instead of flashy banchan, I found a real tuna restaurant that bets everything on a platter of top-grade tuna sashimi. They cut out the fancy side dishes and went all-in on tuna quality alone, so I felt good the whole time eating. It melts the moment it hits your mouth ,, and from that first bite the freshness comes through, starting with that gorgeous marbling that's a cut above.
Cut by cut, that rich, savory fattiness and umami filled every bite, and I felt good with every single piece ;) No need to fill up on side dishes — the tuna alone made me feel completely taken care of. If you want to focus purely on the deep, savory flavor of tuna itself, definitely stop by. Try it out ~~~♥
