Spicy seafood udon set at Himawari, a Yangju Okjeong tonkatsu spot

Himawari Yangju Okjeong Main Branch is a premium tonkatsu restaurant in Okjeong-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi. The order was hire katsu at 14,000 won and the spicy seafood udon set at 15,000 won: a cutlet crisp outside and juicy inside, a seafood broth as deep as the fish-head soup served at a raw fish restaurant, and udon noodles as chewy as rice cake. The twist at Himawari is that this tonkatsu specialist's udon is the dish worth ordering first.

Condensed milk latte at Pocheon Gomori garden café Geurine Oasis

Geurine Oasis is a large bakery café at the entrance to Gomori in Sohheul-eup, Pocheon, Gyeonggi, looking straight out at the Gomori Lake fountain. Under the yellow parasols in the wide garden seating, the writer shared a condensed milk latte, a regular latte, an iced americano and a pastry that was crisp outside and moist inside. Geurine Oasis opens at 9:30 a.m. and parks about 30 cars with room to spare, so it pairs easily with a lakeside walk on a Pocheon date.
